It doesn't. But I assume that's what people are trying to do. Why else would they say stuff like that?

Because they are retards who don't know the correct useage.

The people I usually hear it from are the corporate types who are also using 'impacted' and 'guesstimate' and all those other $2.00 words.
I'm pretty sure they think they are sounding smart.

Nobody who uses guesstimate sounds smart. I'm pretty sure that you're a jackass if you think that.

I'm getting really tired of the use of the word 'cycles' in place of the word 'time'. For example: "Susy, do you have cycles to review
this document?" or "Check with Tom, he may have the cycles to help you out."
It's a common thing in my company so I'm guessing it's consultant-speak. |

I have never heard people say cycles in that context, therefor I believe you are fibbing.

Oh yeah, and fuck Trump for dropping the H on Huge. Now people are dropping H's all over the place. It's a fucking consonant. PRONOUNCE IT
MOTHERFUCKER.

I don't have the cycles to fib.

Anyone that mentions cycles where I work would be sued for sexual harassment.

SA, I hate on accident, too. It just sounds stupid.
I don't hate texting as a verb. It's a new usage for a relatively new technology. |

Corporate speak is the absolute worst.
We 'drill down for information' - meaning we do research. We 'look for synergies and linkages between branches' - uh huh. We 'look to provide deliverables' on our Service Plan strategies and goals - meaning we do what we say we are going to do. blech blech blech |

I sort of hated the overuse of the word organic, but now I kinda like it, but only when its use is, um, er, organic.

But ideas are organic! Synergies are organic! Come on, smrty! Join the organic train!

I thought of another phrase that I hate, not because it's stupid, but because I'm completely fucking sick of hearing it:
"What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas." Ridiculously overused for years. Anyone who still says this ought to be beaten severely. |

That's a cliche (which, in this case, has become an advertising slogan), which opens up another can of worms.
