Bush was elected in November of 1998 to a second term and in June of 1999 he announced his candidacy for president - that's a pretty short turnaround,
though the caucuses weren't until January of 2000

And Jindal is educated so doesn't that automatically make him an elitist among Repubs? Or is that just with Dems?

meh.
Could very well have been a response to getting a stain on his tie as much as watching Jindal walk up to the camera. |

Too bad that the OT political thread is now relegated to SonOfAbraxas and his thread title,
Obama = WORST.ALLEGED.PRESIDENT.EVER. I watched the whole speech tonight from beginning to end, and thought it was excellent. The President outlined his economic plan clearly, and gave the American people hope for the future. It was more of a chat than your typical address to Congress. A breath of fresh air, from the stilted politics of the past. |

CBRetriever wrote:Yes, if you're comparing the two, it's a difference of a full year. And it's not about turnaround. It's about being able to build support in the primary. He'd have to forgo easy reelection as the youngest governor in the nation to enter a national primary he'd likely lose to bigger names, and if he somehow won he'd be a longshot at winning against Obama anyway. It just doesn't make sense. I will say that while somewhat laughable, he was more entertaining than the usual boring droning that occurs in the opposition's response. Kathleen Sebelius was particularly awful. |

MSNBCer Says "Oh God" Before Jindal ReponseAs Gov. Jindal prepares to give the Republican response to Obama's address, an MSNBC host or producer was heard off camera muttering "Oh God." The remark came after host Keith Olbermann paused the panel's discussion as Gov. Jindal was walking to the camera. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2009/02/msnbc_oh_god.html |

Say what you will about Sarah Palin, but she can at least deliver a good speech. Not sure why the GOP isn't propping her up when she's basically the
ONLY person in that party with any charisma right now.

And the updated title was UC's only worthwhile contribution to the thread. I'm just sitting back and watching you all. I don't have a very strong interest in serious politics, but hey, if you all wanna use it, use it. I just started the thread to be dumb. :morepopcorn |

I guess I'm waiting for either Kal Penn or the kid who played Raj on this season's Nip/Tuck to portray Jindal on SNL.

LOL at Chris Mathews saying the Republicans even had to outsource (someone not in Congress) their response speaker like they've done with all of
America's jobs. Not that I agree, but it made me chuckle.
