I can't speak for anyone else, but the prospect of the above images actually panning out in the upcoming movie would be disturbing and change my entire
outlook on the franchise forever.

This is just wrong. Everyone knows Vulcans don't drink champagne! |

But that makes no sense. Counselor Troi talked with a Betazed accent, but her mom talked in perfect English. Why would the actress who plays Counselor Troi speak in a bogus accent if the UT was supposed to be translating for her anyway? |

I'm impressed that you can recognize a "Betazoid accent". The actress who played Troi is English with Greek heritage.
So what you're basically saying is that fans of Star Trek TOS are hoping on a subconscious level (and others outright) that a homosexual relationship between Kirk/Spock develops, or has already developed between them in the past, and will be revealed in the upcoming film? Some fans are...I'm not, but would chuckle if they alluded to it somehow. On a related note, you may notice that despite all the other cultural advances Trek made or attempted over the years, there has never been a gay character...you could count Mirror Kira, but the implication there is that a character who is evil in one universe is also gay. It's a poorly-kept secret that an unnamed exec, most likely Rick Berman, squelched any ideas of creating regular GLBT characters for the spinoffs despite the wishes of Roddenberry and pretty much everyone else involved with the franchise. I say with all seriousness that the gay rights movement would be further ahead than it is now if it had had Trek representation. |

It's well known that Mirina Sirtis made up her own Betazoid accent for the TV show. If you've heard the actress speak in real life, she too has an English accent. (Also, see the differences between the TV show and the last movie where Troi was asked to speak with her normal voice) |

Antithesys wrote:The points you made are valid, especially in regard to furthering the Gay/Lesbian movement since there really isn't any decent representation in the Sci-Fi genre today. Way back then, during a time when Barbara Eden had to cover her navel due to possibly offending viewers, the very thought of an alternate lifestyle character on Star Trek would've sent lynch mobs to the studio. Yet even though we now live in a more acceptable society (well, maybe I should just say more "open" to such ideas) but the thought of these iconic characters we've all grown up with were to suddenly become gay lovers, or even strongly implied to be more than just trusted friends and comrades, would be a definite shock to the system. I consider myself pretty much open-minded and understanding to those who want equality and acceptance, but for some reason this wouldn't sit well with me at all for the reason that it would be a shock to my system. |

Hawk, who dies in First Contact was in a relationship with a male Trill officer on Ent-E, Ranul Keru. When Riker leaves for the Titan he takes him with him as his security chief. http://startrek.wikia.com/wiki/Sean_Hawk http://startrek.wikia.com/wiki/Ranul_Keru again not canon, but exist in the expanded universe as a lead character. |

Yeoman was a big missed character.
Rosenberry was ahead of his time. He was a true child of social revolution. I don't think there is a mention of Christianity with few exceptions. I forgot what it was. |

No, no, no! Fans don't get to just make shit up. If they did, then Charlie's Angels would now be known as "Beefcake's Love Slaves".

WTF? That guy who played as Hawk happened to be the same one in "Band of Brother" and "Tinman"?

The Borg are, pretty much, the "anti-Federation." Before encountering the -D in System J-12 they were just a race that adapted machinery with biology
and they did the same with the 12 they took from the -D. Well, when they began aquiring the minds and thought patterns of those 12 they got the ideals of the
Federation (galactic unification) and took it to a twisted extreme. Kind of the way some may look at the Federation and how they "assimilate" races
and neutralize them into "one race." So the Federation is, indirectly, why the Borg started assimilating.
