That's like asking how did Hoshi Sato get the name Hoshi Sato when she's pure Korean?

Or why French winemaker's son Jean-Luc Picard speaks with an English accent.

It's a universal translator, none of them really have accents. JEEZ, Anti.

I guess that's why Picard's brother and nephew both speak with English accents too despite there being no English people around.

Nice.
How the hell Breen arrived to Planet Earth? Why didn't Borgs invade Dominion vessels? |

How the hell Breen arrived to Planet Earth? They most likely had a fleet that punched through Fed defenses. Only a few ships probably actually made it to Earth because of the relatively small amount of damage done on the surface. Why didn't Borgs invade Dominion vessels? That doesn't deserve an answer. |

Because the Borg aren't active in the Gamma Quadrant. They're only in Alpha because they went back in time and told themselves that the UFP was a
threat.

Antithesys wrote: No no, you're missing the point, too many Trekkies (ers) do in their desire to be exact. In the future, they're using the universal translator so they all would sound the same, no accents. It requires a leap of faith on our part to ignore ALL accents, true, but it's not that Picard has an English accent- it's that Patrick Stewart does. In the Federation future, there are NO accents as long as their translator is functioning appropriately. Where's the fun in being so anal that you kill the idea or enjoyment of something? Anyway, "THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!" would sound way less cool with a French accent. |

It's been a long time since I've seriously attacked inconsistencies, although there are so many holes with the UT that nitpicking it is unavoidable.
Does Worf speak English or Klingonese? If Klingonese, why do he and other characters sometimes use Klingon words that don't get translated for us or the
characters? Even if someone's speech is instantaneously translated into a listener's language, the movement of their lips can't be, so how are
officers able to go undercover without being discovered?

The occasional smattering of Klingon is like in old movies when the Germans would randomly say, "Ach du!" and shit like that, and speak perfect
English the rest of the time. Hilariously stupid yet charming.
The lip movement is another inconsistency that can't be explained. Realistically, the movements wouldn't match but it's television and some shit has to slide. |
