According to some of the men I know, they say once you get a certain stage of facial growth, it is a major chore to get rid of it... so you either shave before it gets to that point or you let it keep going... In fact the reason a lot of men don't have beards is because at the mid-point it is really ugly and hasn't filled in. (Usually that's when the shaver comes out.) (It is similar to women wanting to grow their hair, at a certain point it is to long to be short but too short to be long) Could be that Ben (as shown in the picture above) reached that ugly stage while in the game and once out of the game simply decided that he wanted to grow a full beard. And going by the latest picture at camp, there isn't much difference between that and what he shows post-game.
