I'm so glad I only unearthed a bees nest in my backyard and NOT a big cockroach hole!! I'm not overly bug-phobic, but roaches are GROSS!!!!

Oh you fuckers. Those pictures are disgusting.
Well, I made it back to my room and started the search. I found the roach pretty much in the same place I left it, hiding under my sheet. So I freaked out a little (because I had been smacking the sheet and was convinced it wasn't in there) and went in the hall. I came back when I got the courage to fold up the corners of the sheet and shove it in a bag. I took it outside and shook it but nothing. He had escaped the sheet when I went in the hallway. One more time I start looking and find it under the bed this time. He's as big and ugly as ever. Anyway, when I was reaching for a cup and a bag he made a run for it and escaped out the heating duct. So, I dunno who won. I guess it's a tie. I'm sure there are tons of roaches in the ducts and walls so as long as he's there and not in my bed it's okay. I just don't want him coming back out every chance he gets. |

Can you put something down so he doesn't come back or it kills him? I agree with SA, there's probably more than just that one.

If this is a dorm room, can't you just ask a guy to come in and take care of the roach for you? (You might have to give up sex or something in return so
make sure he's hot)

My boyfriend is coming tomorrow with a deterrent spray that you put in places like that. Right now I don't have anything that would really fit there.
It's like a small opening across the whole bottom of the wall. Only part of that opening is the heating duct, but I don't think anything would fit in
the space and I don't have anything big enough to block the whole bottom of the wall.

well, my dogs did a pretty good job on them - plus my cats like to flip the big ones on their backs and play hockey with them - they seem to make excellent
pucks

I never had a phobia of roaches until freshman year of college. Too many horror stories from that year.
One of the worst was when a roach birthed a billion and a half babies on the kitchen floor right in front of me. Luckily there was a spray bottle of kitchen cleaner handy and I bleached those fuckers to death. None of those Raid sprays or bait traps or spray bombs work. If they've moved in, they are not moving out. |

Does 409 kill them? That's the only spray I have. Seems pretty caustic.

waking up to any bug, but especially a roach, is extreme of grossness.
i have a roach horror story: one Christmas my 4 year old son received so many toys i decided to put some in the storage shed in the back yard and pull them out for him to play later. i kinda forgot about those toys, but a couple of months later my son was playing outside, and brought a giant trainset inside. one end of the box had been opened at Christmas. when he opened the trainset box in the house, hundreds of little roaches swarmed out across the floor like that scene on Halloween III with bugs pouring out of the little kids mask. i am already ocd, so i just remember not getting any sleep for weeks and killing myself scooping up and destroying as many of them as i could find immediately. also, i had a friend that swears she got an ice cream sundae when they had them on the menu at a burger king drive thru. she stuck her spoon in it, and when she put it on her tongue she felt something 'not smooth'. she looked at her spoon, and screamed. there was a dead roach on her spoon, covered in ice cream. she went back and screamed at the manager. she said he acted nonchalant about it, just saying that it was just proably in the cups. she was screaming 'it was in my MOUTH!!!', and they just offered her another sundae, which she declined. |

I once went to emergency room when I woke up from a nap. Immediately afterward, a spider bit on my eyelid. It was awful. |

I remember reading an interview with Eddie Van Halen in which he described a particularly delightful hotel experience in the early Van Halen days where he woke
up in the middle of the night with horrible ear pain, went to the bathroom and squirted saline solution into his ear, and a cockroach came crawling out.
One of my friends had an apartment in New Gloucester that was infested with black wasps. That shit was pretty freaky in terms of sitting there watching TV or something and a large black whatthefuckwasthat buzzes by your face. Incidentally, imagine that you're getting ready for a nice productive day at work, you open the closet to get your coat, you look up, and you see this:

There's some hardcore stuff that you can buy at the hardware store that does work. They are best for keeping stuff out that's already out than getting rid of stuff that's already there though. |
