Yeah, they just knew they couldn't go from the race wars of Cook Islands to another season with two or three token minorities.

First of all, it's evident by the first immunity challenge that they were only planning 2 tribes.

Here is something Probst said in TV Guide, about S18 which is supposed to come out tomorrow. Survivorfever posted it:
http://survivorfever.net/images18/tvg_jan_5_09.jpg "It was extremely cold and wet. It would rain for days and that really tested the Survivors' desire to stay in the game." It seems like weather is going to play a significant role this season. I remember reading something written by Andy Dehnart on reality blurred, (he was in Brazil for pre-game interviews) that while the location was beautiful and in some places stunning, the temperature was well over 100 degrees in the shade. This combined with what Probst said makes it seem like the temp will be either really cold or really hot, with a shitload of rain. I hope there aren't a lot of people who quit this season... |

That would make sense. Locales like that have very different temperatures between day/night. Days would be extremely hot and the nights would be extremely
cold. The fact that the Survivors appear to be in their street clothes yet again probably doesn't help.

Don't know if it's true or not, but I've heard that before Melissa McNulty backed out, the Fiji tribes were supposed to have been divided along racial lines into 4 groups like in Cook Islands. Imagine how different things would have been if we'd had these 4 tribes, all on an even playing field (in terms of camp life):The dumb TV guide chick did say this in the Fiji preview, so I understand why people get confused, but it wasn't true. They would have simply done a schoolyard pick with 10 vs. 10 instead of 9 vs. 9 and one Exile (Sylvia). Challenges are developed beforehand. They would not have planned for so many two-team challenges if there were ever going to be four tribes. Plus, I'm sure they would have sold the unused buffs they ordered like they did in Palau, had that been the case. |

I like the rainy seasons. It really adds atmosphere to the game, as opposed to the seasons where it's bone dry for 39 days.
Sounds like there will be at least one quitter, but that's par for the course these days. |

Not sure Tocantins is going to count as a desert if Jeff said it was very "wet," though, and subject to torrential downpours. Deserts can be cold,
for sure, but they can't be wet or they're, well, not deserts. Tocantins is looking to be like the area they used for Survivor: Outback. Rugged, but
not arid. The only real desert they've been to is Kenya.

The "desert" is a really small area. The majority of the filming location is forest/jungle and the river oasis.

I have a feeling that there will be quitters this season, hope not.

I hate quitters or people who wine all the freaking time, that don't necessarely quit, but basically ask to be voted out... I hate it, it bothers the hell
out of me. Not fair to the people who want in so badly. Las t season Gc had a big role in ruining the season for me with his stupidity.

The weather details are earlier in this thread, but basically it is one of those dry season/wet season sorts of places. The cool wet weather in the middle of
the game was atypical. Normal weather would have been hot and dry throughout shooting. ("Dry" in terms of weather meaning "not raining", not in terms of environment meaning desert.)
I'm thinking since it didn't get miserable until mid-game, the folks left around at that point were pretty serious about competing. Hopefully Probst doesn't spend too much of his pre-season promotion time talking about how tough it was for the crew. |

PrettyGoodYear1988 wrote:I have to agree PGY, this is the game of Survivor and sometimes it is the elements, or the physical nature (injuries) that take them out. I like the randomness of that kind of game. Anyone who has quit or been forced to leave due to illness or injury adds another layer to the game. An organic 'twist' if you will that may hinder or help other player's plans. And part of the game is judging your allies strength to finish a game. I also have to say that I enjoy watching some personalities get pummeled by the weather or their realization that they can't take the strain. There are a few exceptions, like Osten who seemed just to wimp out. |

While we wait for the cast announcement and the premiere, would any Brazilians be willing to teach us a few words in Portuguese? For example, how do you say
'hi' , goodbye, thank you, , etc.? When you discuss Survivor with your friends in Portuguese, do you use the English terms (tribal council, tribe,
idol, etc) or do you translate the words into Portuguese?
