He wasn't a traditional applicant, but had his friend who works in casting not have contacted him, then he would have never applied to the show. |

I think they wanted an "old man" contestant for the season and got desperate- he and Kenny were both rejected and called back.
The funniest part about the casting was them thinking Charlie would be a gamer. Which was a complete misread of his personality. |

Ummm call me crazy but I thought even recruits had to go through the application process, just as a formality.

He did send in an application, but he had never really watched the show before. He had known someone who ended up working for SEG. This person always thought Bob would have been great on Survivor, so this person called Bob up and told him to send in an application and a video. Bob then did that, but apparently was turned away after he said that he wouldn't lie or something like that. Afterward, SEG had second thoughts and called him back. He wasn't a traditional applicant, but had his friend who works in casting not have contacted him, then he would have never applied to the show. This isn't quite true. Bob was one of Julie Berry's teachers in high school. Before she and Probst split, Julie pointed Bob out to him in one of her high school yearbooks, and Probst had SEG ask him to apply. Yes, recruits have to fill out applications and make tapes just like everyone else (which is why people like Matty and Corinne had tapes to show in the recap). They just have an extra "in" that gets them a little further along in casting. |

I heard the same story as sa0695. Either way, Bob's a Recruit. .. and there's nothing wrong with that.

PrettyGoodYear1988 wrote: Yeah, they still have to go through the "process" but that extra "in" you mentioned seems to be a big deal. They are making their video and sending in their application knowing that they will move on to the next round regardless. Some recruits have made videos while they were in the hotel during finals. While a normal applicant, sends in their tape/app not knowing if and when a call may be coming, and casting has no vested interest in our application coming in, so they won't be looking out for our specific application. So they still have to go through the process... but not really as they are just going through the motions, as they seem to have a free ride to at least the semi-final round if not further. |

Quite pathetic how you have been affected by any comments I would make.Remember how I mentioned that you might try a life away from these boards. Do not expect any further replies from me, as this is the last morsel I will feed you... troll. |

Recruits have to go through the same process - applications and videos. Just because someone was suggested by a casting specialist doesn't mean they
didn't go through the same process as someone like Gillian/Leslie/Randy/Todd/Amanda (all big fans of the show).
And Boo knew Erika from BB, who now does casting for Survivor. She tends to pull favors apparently. Once Boo was on the show, he suggested James as a contestant. |

Boo knew Erika via Krista who is from Opelousas. James worked as a bouncer at one of Boo's clubs.
