And the NL West is a crapshoot. Heck, Arizona could very well win it. I'm just not sold on a revival by Lincecum for the Giants or SD coming out the shadows this year.

Oh I'm fully aware. Matt Holliday means nothing to me, though, as the SF media has been playing him out as a NL player with potential in the
A's clubhouse. What this usually means is that he's gonna be gone in two or three years and will contribute minimally, so I hold judgment on how
he'll do. Add in the fact that Billy Bean imploded the team just before the All-Star break last year to build up the team for this year and the years to
come makes me think that he's grasping at straws when he saw that the team he assembled would not be able to compete at all in the AL West this year. Hence
the addition of Holliday and Giambi, while trading away valuable players such as closer Street.

Wow, you are soooooo dumb.
Holliday is like a top 10-20 MLB position player. |

I'm not debating that. I'm debating whether or not he can make a difference on a team like the A's. I say no, at least right now.

How would a top 15 player not make a difference?
You're basically saying in this thread that Matt Holliday and Jason Giambi will not be an upgrade over the Frank Thomas/Carlos Gonzalez combination of last year, which, even accounting for defense, is absurd. |

I'd agree with that. The Angels are pretty far ahead of the other 3 teams in the AL West as far as talent goes, but can they close games out now with K-Rod
gone?

RazorrzzEdge wrote:Holliday is one of the best in the game, although we'll see how he does without half his games at Coors, but none the less, it takes more than 1 big aquisition and take a team like the A's and turn them into something. If they landed Furcal, that would have been a start, but even then, theyd probably have to wait a few years before they contend. |

I'd agree that it's not going to be enough to put them in first place, but he and Giambi will probably make the A's about 6 wins better, and then some of their young pitchers might progress. I think the Angels will be set at closer. Arredando is as good as K-Rod.

and now Trevor Hoffman to the Brewers. Expect 500 multiple personality Angela postings on Hoffman alone this coming season.

it's atlanta's fault that he's not going back there. the sox got him for $5.5 million and the braves never even offered him a contract

It's a good deal for the Sox if he has anything left after all that surgery, but I'm just not convinced that he does. Pretty cheap for a pitcher of his
caliber though if he perfoms even at 75% of his recent self in the second half of the season.

How would a top 15 player not make a difference?*cough* Santana *ask the Mets * cough* Besides, Holiday is defensively terrible. Sad day for us Braves fans. Goodbye Smoltzy. We're gonna miss you |

So am I the only one who questions the Brewers signing of Trevor Hoffman? Do they even have a starting staff capable of getting to the 9th inning with a lead
to begin with? How much of an upgrade will Julio and Hoffman even be over Mota and Gagne? It almost seems as though Melvin said to hell with it when he missed
out on CC.

Yay! Go Red Sox!
Anyone see the new MLB network? We get it but I haven't had time to check it out. Any good? Comparable to the NFL network?? |
