Hank Steinbrenner has opened the checkbook and allowed Brian Cashman to sign some very top tier free agents this offseason while the other 29 teams have been making mostly minor moves. About the only team other than the Yanks doing anything right now is the Cubs, where Jim Hendry hasn't given up trying to get them back to the World Series for the first time in 64 years...

Oh yeah the Mets spent some money too early on in the offseason. And there have been a few moves here and there by other teams, but mostly the landscape has been quiet. How long will it remain so? Dunno...but what I do know is that pitchers and catchers report in 40 days.

Inital predictions based on gut feeling more than anything else...

Hendry can do whatever he wants. But until the curse of that damn goat is broken once and for all, the Cubs will NEVER return to the World Series. And probably not even then. tia

And Colby, I know you're a White Sox fan -- they made the ALDS last year -- why picking them for last place? Just curious.

This is our year. I can feel it. again. I predict Peavy comes to the Cubs in June or July, leading the Cubbies past the Yankees in the World Series. Book it.

As a Jays fan, it is extremely depressing to be playing in the same division as the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays.

Until they fire J.P. "I am happy with this team as it is presently constituted" Ricciardi, I'm not going to be watching a whole lot of baseball. Maybe I'll take up knitting instead.

The lineup is one year older with no guarantees of performing the same as last year and I didn't see Kenny Williams make any moves that will improve the ballclub. Yet. Plus...I see the Indians loading for bear, the Tigers bouncing back, the Twins always right there and the Royals finally starting to improve a la the Rays. Sad to say but I think it'll be a long year on the south side of Chicago this season.

True that these guys are ancient with Thome, Konerko, Dye, and AJ Alphabet, but they also have some nice young players in Ramirez and Quentin. 3rd base is a big question mark, can Fields do what he did in 2007, or will they have to look elsewhere? Williams needs to go out and get another player or 2, maybe 1 pitcher and 1 bat be it an infielder or an outfielder, which is still very possible be it via trade or FA.

Can Floyd and Danks do what they did last year? Will Buerhle pitch like an ace as he is being paid? Who will fill out the rotation now that The Silent Assasin is gone and Contreres out for the year? Is Richard better for the big time? Will the pen do what they did they did the 1st half or the 2nd?

I woulnt count the Sox out yet, as you did last year. I dont think they'll make the post season, but I certainly don't see them as a last place team.

And as fopr the Yankees, every year since they traded for A Rod, it seems that they make a move or series of moves that has the baseball world thinking "now they'll be unbeatable", and every year, something goes wrong and they drop the soap. Granted, they went all out this time, so we'll just have to see what happens.

The Angels extended Mike Scioscia's contract to manage through 2018. I bet 6 months of Yuku Supporter he doesn't make it through the whole thing.

Yankees are my team. I only made 2 games this year (one where Manny hit 2 hr's) but AROD continued my tradition.

Every game I went to in the past 2 years AROD homers.

Yankees are going for 27 this year...and they will not be denied.

Are you aware of the fact that the Rockies traded Matt Holliday to the A's? It appears as if you aren't, seeing as how you somehow think the Rockies will win the west.

I'm going to hold off on my predictions until the free agent market is almost clear.
