Thanks Miki! To tell the truth -- I probably would have had no problem with Archuleta IF he weren't so heavily pimped since the start of the season. All the over the top adulation was too much to bear -- it sorta took all the fun and guesswork out of the Show. So the real target of my hate was Randy, Simon and even Paula coronating David King of the World long before we in the audience had a chance to really assess all the contestants and form our own opinions.

I, like practically everyone I know, didn't really notice David Cook at all -- and then he sang Billie Jean and everything changed. I would say he won most of his fan support from that one performance --- and it was good for people like me who wanted an alternative to Archuleta but, prior to that time, it didn't seem like anyone else could catch him.

Then, when it seemed like the Judges and media were overpimping Archuleta and downplaying Cook's talents -- well that was just the last straw. They really fanned the fires of Archu-hate, not really for anything Archuleta did, but moreso from the feeling that this was all predetermined (just like Paula's comments on songs not yet sung). We Americans are so independent minded that you just can't tell us who we are or are not supposed to like -- it's almost instinctive that we react against such elitism and try to undermine it.

Simon apologizing to Cook last night, after he knew all the indicators predicted a Cook win, spoke volumes. He could care less about Cook's feelings, he was just trying to salvage his reputation with the audience -- he realized the impression that he was biased and out of step with American tastes would probably lead to the decision that Judges weren't really needed at all -- not a good prospect from his point of view.

Good post and much agreeance. This is pretty much sums up my feelings on the whole kit and kaboodle. I hate the game, not the player necessarily. (although the chops and some of the shit in here is admittedly making my spleen rip with laughter)

I think the viewing audience just raised their collective middle finger to the judges and not a moment too soon. I'm not going to pick on the Archtards here though because they're cool with me and I know firsthand and very, very often how much it sucks to have your favorite lose.
