Talk about your fandoms colliding. It turns out the grandma of one of the guys who came to visit him this week posts at The Clackhouse - A Clay Aiken fanboard. Anyway, this is what she had to say about Jason:
OK, my grandson was the friend that was there last weekend with Jason, along with another childhood friend and Jason's brother. He was in the group of Jason's friends shown on Tues. show and went home Wed. Can't comment on the article itself, because they didn't know anything about it at all. As for the content, remember that Jason is *very* shy and not someone that craves the spotlight or being the center of attention - he does love his music and performing though. The music, rather than being "a star", if that makes any sense, is why he tried out - and also because it was a chance to learn a little about the business of music itself once he got over the shock of going on the show. He said Jason was very glad to see his old friends and get a bit of respite from some of the pressures even though everywhere Jason goes he gets a *lot* of attention…my grandson said he felt a little guilty for not having gone out before now, but he's also @ A&M and wasn't able to take the time to do it until he had the break in his classes.
Jason is a really good guy, and as Carly said, nothing like what a lot of people assume by the dreadlocks, etc. Grandson was surprised but pleased at Carly's comment, because he didn't think Carly 'got' Jason, btw. He did say Jason was exhausted and homesick, missed his friends - but that part was just like the others probably are and just as any of the 'kids' have been at this point in the show. He doesn't expect to win, and does feel that others in the group are more likely to enjoy being a celebrity. Jason isn't particularly comfortable with, and doesn't understand all the attention he gets, and my grandson said the way he's continually watched, shepherded and constantly shuffled from one thing to another would take it's toll on anyone that wasn't craving it to begin with. He said he didn't personally believe that the quote about wanting to go home was accurate, but did say that Jason *expects* to go home just anytime now. He's not quitting or not trying but just trying to be realistic? But again, my grandson doesn't know how, when or *if* Jason interviewed with anyone during the 5 days or so he was there with him, so he's not commenting on the interview itself, one way or the other - but only on his impressions of what's going on based on knowing Jason and what his impressions were from his visit."
