Though it's not likely at this point, I hope that Canadian Idol will return next year. It may not have as much resources to pull from as its counterpart below the 49th parallel, but the show has produced genuine talents, if not big-time superstars. Frankly, unless you've got exploitable contacts (Drake - I think that he's a Kanye West protege or something) or an exploitable image (Avril Lavigne with her initial anti-Britney shtick) or create crappy rock music that mainstream America will sop up with a biscuit (Nickelback), being a Canadian and breaking into the American market is next to impossible these days. I don't even think that Avril would have lasted a day on Canadian Idol. In addition, Ben Mulroney is less smarmy and more of a gentleman than Ryan Seacrest, and Zack, Sass, Farley, and Jake are a better panel than Simon, Paula, Randy, and Kara. (I doubt it will get any better with Paula leaving and Ellen DeGeneres replacing her.) The show just seems so much more charming and palatable than American Idol.
