I wonder how LLF is doing with their sales. I hear them on the radio a lot. It would be funny if Ryan's band outsold both Brian and Kalan.

People are usually better off after the show but we can't expect everyone to become the next Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. Those happen few and far
between. Once in awhile someone becomes really successful but usually it's a couple years and then they fade into obscurity. I watch in hopes to find
someone like a Theresa or Billy who has amazing talent even though they may not reach superstardom.

Those CI commercials are hilarious. YOU CAN BE THE NEXT CANADIAN STAR!!11!!! or something like that.
Please. It's more like, you can have a massively rushed produced c.d. out in stores near x-mas that will briefly appear on the main shelves of HMV's top 20 in their stores than quickly fall into obscurity after everyone you possibly know in your small town or area buys it then where you can check in the HMV or other record store aisles months later and look up your very own name with your c.d. grossly overpriced because there is no demand or supply for it and you will have to shell out 20 bucks or more just to buy it and try to achieve Canadian gold status before SonyBMG eventually drops you. I wish they would say that instead. It's more honest. |

I think the powers that be realize the problems associated with winning the show in terms of CD/management issues which is why with CI5 they were putting less
emphasis on the winner's record deal (as in past seasons) and more emphasis on the financial aspect of winning (the winner getting such and such money),
the chance to go on tour and perform in public etc.
I wonder how LLF is doing with their sales. I hear them on the radio a lot. It would be funny if Ryan's band outsold both Brian and Kalan. It would be ironic in some ways to be sure but I personally believe that one of the reasons LLF is doing reasonably well (read better than expected) is because their music is actually good with Ryan and the others taking the time to make sure their CD was everything they wanted it to be before releasing it. This is pretty much the opposite of what happened with Home and with the subsequent winners' CDs. Little wonder Ryan has more respect now then when he was still with SBMG. My sister doesn't watch or care about CI but knows who Hedley and LLF are (as opposed to Kalan, Eva etc.) |

Another thing probably helping LLF is the fact that that's the type of music that is popular right now.
The stuff they put on Idol CDs shouldn't even be called pop music, it's like it's own genre, it's Idol music and it's fanbase is the fanbase of whoever actually won and put out the CD with that stuff on it. It can be a good listen occasionally if you're a fan of any given winner and there's always a few songs that can do something on the radio because they're less mediocre Idol crap than the rest but other than that it's not popular and I doubt very many people outside the Idol fanbase are buying it unless they're really struck by one of the songs they hear on the radio because granted, the Idols do get good airplay with their few singles. If they could get the rights to do the songs I think doing it the way Australia is doing it with releasing The Winner's Journey and then allowing for the winner to make their own CD with their own songs would be a much better idea. In theory Idol fans would rush out and buy The Winnery's Journey to get possibly new studio versions of their favourite Idol performances and the CD would be much better and might actually catch the attention of music fans and give the person some legs to stand on and a chance at a career in the music industry, rather than being a flash in the pan. It would be great if all the winner's could do what Ryan's doing and go on and do their own thing after being dropped by Sony BMG, but we shall see what happens. |

Remember the Cher and Jenner duet?

^ True. But you can say what you want about Jenner, at least he was memorable (way more so than Briyawn).

As if I needed another reason to post more here during the season than at the scary boards. They've bastardized the official forum.

"Reveal your inner idol" |

I saw the Kalan Porter one twice, the Melissa one once and just the "reveal your inner Idol" at least 7 times.
If they were being honest they'd say "Canadian Idol changed their life...for a while, now they're back singing in Sears and working at McDonald's." Okay maybe not that harsh, I suppose Kalan is still doing a tour this year and Melissa is in a musical, and Eva is doing modeling. I can't wait to see if they have a Ryan Malcolm commercial though. "Canadian Idol changed his life, then we dropped him and now he's more popular than he was when SBMG had their claws in him and had him release shit like "Star of all the Planets." |
