Pearl Islands had a consistent pre and post-merge, as did Marquesas.

Marquesas seems the most consistent to me. PI and FvF had pretty bland pre-merges, and Australia had an unsatisfying post-merge. So if we're talking best
all-around...MARQUESAS.

The PI pre merge wasn't terrible, it did have the epic failures of Osten, which were fun to watch, and the post merge was so much greater than any other
season's that it makes up for the lack of epic in the pre merge. Marquesas is more consistent, but it doesn't have the same levels of epic.

I agree Marquesas didn't reach the highest levels of epic, though I think the 5-4 coup'd'etat is my favorite episode to date. For those who were
there, Borneo will always be the sentimental fav. It was just one big pagonging but there's nothing like the first time.

ALL-STARS! Okay, I'm an All-Star fan. I loved seeing players from different seasons in one season.
Seriously, PEARL ISLANDS. Never was there a boring episode. The OUTCAST twist made it more interesting. SANDRA was a satisfying winner. OUTBACK and BORNEO were also good. They give the nostalgic feeling. MICRONESIA is also for consideration. But I think pre-merge was not amazing. |

Borneo: BLAH pre-merge, GOOD post-merge Australia: GOOD pre-merge, BLAH post-merge Africa: OKAY pre-merge, BLAH post-merge Marquesas: GOOD pre-merge, GOOD post-merge Thailand: BLAH pre-merge, BLAH post-merge Amazon: BLAH pre-merge, GOOD post-merge Pearl Islands: GOOD pre-merge, GOOD post-merge All-Stars: OKAY pre-merge, BLAH post-merge Vanuatu: OKAY pre-merge, GOOD post-merge Palau: SUCKY pre-merge, SUCKY post-merge Guatemala: OKAY pre-merge, OKAY post-merge Exile Island: GOOD pre-merge, OKAY post-merge Cook Islands: OKAY pre-merge, OKAY post-merge Fiji: SUCKY pre-merge, OKAY post-merge China: OKAY pre-merge, GOOD post-merge Micro: OKAY pre-merge, GOOD post-merge Gabon: OKAY pre-merge, GOOD post-merge Marquesas and Pearl Islands were just really consistent. Micro picked up around the fifth or sixth episode and then kept its momentum, but it took a while to get into it. For the most part, the pre-merges have really suffered in the past seasons. I think it has a lot to do with end-gamers getting most of the focus and the early eliminees being generally UTR or neglected. |

The additional pre-merge episode or two for 18+ cast I think contributes to the bleh-ness.

Also, casting is just less consistent, so there are just a bunch of people who you don't want there, and people who could potentially be entertaining but
aren't huge personalities get less screen time given that there are more people.
Also, the problem is that a season will never work out like Marquesas again, since the game has gotten too advanced. No single player will ever again accumulate the same level of power (and therefore the same epic downfall) as John did, and nobody will ever go as insane as he did or say such ridiculous stuff ("Neleh and Paschal are really rooting for my success in this game" is one of the greatest lines ever, imo). The casting of females has sucked recently, so we are probably never going to get another strong female competitor like Tammy or Kathy again, and the famewhores now just aren't as good as Boston Rob was (even if he was a complete asshole). Pearl Islands, on the other hand, was probably the most strategically well played and balanced season ever. Basically every episode had some strategic intrigue, especially in the post-merge, where everything went completely insane after the Rupert boot, and Sandra and JFP were fun to watch. |

Just in terms of pre merge and post merge gameplay, strategy involved, and cast, I would say Marquesas, Amazon, and Micronesia.
Amazon is arguably the best for me. And when I say cast, I mean not only how likable the characters were, but how well they interacted with each other. Amazon was the first season where people seemed like they really wanted to be there and were playing the game, but having fun at the same time. |

Palau is the best for me, by far. I'd say China or Cook Islands are right behind.

FIJI. Earl wasn't trying to be a colorful larger than life personality. He simply went in, did the necessary job with the necessary people, and came out
with a clean sweep.
VANUATU is a close second. Producer irony at its absolute most ironic. They couldn't possibly have imagined the dimwitted slob in the red wifebeater beating them at their own little game. BORNEO, of course. This is where EPMB saw his precious little vision turned upside down. He had no idea a fat naked fag was capable of making alliances the key to the whole game. PEARL ISLANDS. One part Rupert. One part Jonny Rotten against Sassy Sandra. Need I go on? |

People are probably going to hate me for this, but I still really, really, really like Palau.
Granted, I was 12 when the first season aired, and so understanding of the first few seasons was limited since, you know, I was a kid. And now, looking back on them, I find them somewhat boring (although Borneo will always have a place in my heart). |

OK, so I have a random question.
People have said before that there are other ways to play this game. How else would one play the game than use alliances? Did EPMB really want people to vote for the person who had the best survival skills? Did he really want to just show Gretchen be awesome and then give her a million bucks? I just don't get how someone would play this game without numbers. |

I think that EPMB just didn't think it through that much. He thought that the tribes would vote out the least useful/most annoying people, and once the
merge happened they would do the same (while possibly also voting the physically strong competitors). He probably thought that people would make alliances with
one another, but he didn't realize how important they would be to winning the game.
