If Hamas was fighting for 'freedom' in the Western cultural sense - if they were fighting for the free market, free expression, free voting, free democracy and freedom from arbitrary arrest - if they were fighting to enjoy the exact same rights that some of us in the West take for granted, the "but" would carry a whole lot more weight.Right?
They're fighting for a stern autocratic theocracy.
It invalidates the 'but', and neutralizes all sympathy I have for them.
