EPISODE 6 - "NO! This is NOT happening! NO NO NO!" -Florence

Phil: Previously on The Amazing Race… 9 teams set out from the Republic of Ireland and raced through 2 previously unvisited countries on the European continent; Monaco and the Czech Republic.

Phil: All teams started out the leg on an equal footing and once in Monaco, the teams' fates were decided by pure luck.

Jessica: Great choosing of cards!
Dorothy: This is what I call luck!
Henry: Please… please… Let this be it.

Phil: But one team opted for the risky Fast-Forward, placing their entire race on the betting table.

Sean: Alright then. It's all or nothing now, Mom.

Melissa: Sean. This is bad.
Melissa: Let's hope our luck changes soon.

Phil: But through their determination, the mother & son team, Melissa & Sean triumphed and completed the Fast-Forward, earning them their first 1st place finish.

Phil: You are team number ONE.
Melissa: Ahh!
Sean: It's about time!

Phil: However, other teams still had a long and grueling leg to complete. Tension between Dorothy & Lauren and Jason & Nicholas escalate as the brothers play dirty to prevent Dorothy & Lauren from getting on an earlier flight to the Czech Republic.

Jason: And if you can, please DO NOT let the team behind us get on the flight. It is very important. Can you do this for me please?
Lauren (conf): When I heard what Jason & Nicholas had said, I was thoroughly outraged. How could they do such a despicable thing? We didn't even offend them or anything.
Dorothy (conf): Nobody messes with us and gets away with it.

Phil: In the end, it was a neck-and-neck race between married great grandparents Florence & Henry and lifelong best friends Jeffrey & Ryan. Jeffrey & Ryan were complacent and underestimated Florence & Henry, thus choosing the slower Detour option.

Ryan: Would Henry & Florence do the Descend? I don't think so. They'd be too scared too. Let's do the Ascend and stop wasting time!

Florence (conf): Nothing scares me more than being eliminated. Not even jumping off a 216 meters building.

Phil: In the end, it was Jeffrey & Ryan who were eliminated.

Jeffrey: Oh well. We came here with nothing and we're going back with lots of fond memories.
Ryan: It's been a real blast.

Phil: Now only 8 teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?

-Credits roll-

Phil: This is the town of Beroun, located in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. And this is the Lookout on the Ded Hill. This lookout was the 5th pit-stop in a race around the world.

Phil: Melissa & Sean, who were the first team to arrive at 2.13am, will depart, at 2.13pm.

Melissa: Alright. Where are we off to this time?
Sean: Says here, pick a marked car and drive yourself to the city of Pilsen and once there, find the Great Synagogue to receive our next clue.

Phil: Teams must now drive themselves a far distance to the town of Pilsen and look for the Great Synagogue built in 1892 where they will find their clue at the entrance of the landmark.



Melissa: Well, let's go! Whoo.
Sean (conf): Finally clinching a first place has certainly raised our spirits. It's just a whole different feeling.

-Jenn & Nicole depart more than 2 hours later at 4.22pm-

Jenn: Wow. We're staying in Europe.
Nicole: For now anyway.
Jenn (conf): The feeling of getting out of our 3rd-slum is certainly overwhelming.
Nicole: Get out the map, Jenn. It's gonna be a LONG drive.

-Jason & Nicholas depart at 4.26pm-

Nicholas: Come on now, no time to waste.
Jason (conf): We have certainly been playing dirty the past few legs. But I have no regrets nor do I feel remorseful. This is a game for one million dollars and if other teams are too weak to take action, we will.
Nicholas (conf): It's come to a point where I have to agree with Jason. While he has certainly been too over-the-top in his antics, now that it's midway into the race, we can't be nice-guys anymore.

-Thomas & Zoey depart at 4.32pm-

Thomas: Right then, I'll drive.
Zoey: Sure, Dad. I'm still exhausted from the last leg.
Zoey (conf): You have to be super human to not feel the stress of fatigue on you. It's been pretty difficult for me, I guess.

-Jessica & Ashley depart at 4.45pm-

Jessica: Well, let's get going. Get the pink car.
Ashley: Alrighty then.
Jessica (conf): Right now we're right smack in the middle of the pack.
Ashley (conf): It's just what we wanted actually. We don't want to draw too much attention to the stronger teams and hopefully they underestimate us and we sneak in for the win in the end.

-Michael & Tiffany depart at 4.53pm-

Michael: No time to waste, Tiff. Let's get going.
Tiffany: Hang on, Mike! I need to tie my shoelace.
Michael: My god. You can tie it in the car, right?
Tiffany: Hmph fine. But you're paying for my medical bills if I trip and fall.
Tiffany (conf): Both Michael & I are really very competitive people. We hate to lose. And at 6th place, we're the 5th best loser. And that's very bad.
Michael (conf): When we do something, we aim for the best possible result. This is no exception.

Sean: Search the Synagogue for one of two departure times!

Phil: Teams must now search the remarkable monument for one of two departure times the following morning; 7am and 7.30am. There are 4 slots for 7am and another 4 for 7.30am. Once teams rip off the slot, they may not switch anymore.

Melissa: There's a 7.30am, Sean.
Sean: Hang on, let's check if the other is earlier.
Sean (conf): Being ahead has its perks. We had no pressure in choosing our departure time because the other teams were at least 2 hours behind us.
Sean: Got it, Mom. 7am. That's the best one.
Melissa: Time to go and rest up for the next leg then.
Sean: I think we should.

Jenn: Hmm. Shoot. We're lost.
Nicole: Are you joking?
Jenn: I'm sorry, Nicole. Our map is not really good.
Nicole: -sighs- I guess it's fine. It's still early in the leg and we have a lead. We should be able to catch up. Let's ask this guy for directions.
Nicole (conf): That initial mistake cost us really big. We just did not realize it till later.
Nicole: Oh crap, Jenn. We're 20 minutes off.

Zoey (conf): We are elated to find out Jenn & Nicole weren't there yet. Not the sinister happiness of their downfall but simply because we had a better chance of getting a better timing.

Zoey: I wonder who will get it.
Thomas: Probably Jenn & Nicole.

Thomas: Drive yourselves to Charles Bridge!

Melissa: Another road trip!

Phil: Teams must now drive themselves back to the capital city of Prague and find Charles Bridge, a 516 meters long historical bridge where their next clue will be waiting for them.

Ashley: Alright now, we're driving back to Prague.
Jessica: Yeah, I've got the route all planned out.
Ashley: Awesome, let's go!

Jason: How to we get back to Prague?
Nicholas: Just drive first bro. I'll figure it out.

Melissa: I have no idea how to get back to Prague, Sean.
Sean: We'll ask later on.

Thomas: Hmm. Let's stop at this gas station, Zo.
Zoey: Alright. We need refueling and directions anyway.
Gas-Station person: You're going through the longer route. You have to reverse and go back to Pilsen and take the southern route. It'll reduce the travel time by at least 15 minutes.
Zoey: Thanks a lot!

Zoey: Man… How lucky we were to ask for directions.
Thomas: Yeah, Melissa & Sean and the brothers are still headed northward though.
Zoey: Oh well. We can't everyone.

Jessica: Oh is that it?
Ashley: Must be. Great! I don't see any teams here yet.
Jessica: It's a Roadblock, honey!
Ashley: Who's ready for confusion?

Phil: In this Roadblock, one team member will have to find 10 of 30 statues on the bridge. The names of the 10 statues they have to find (each team is given a different list) is attached to the clue they first obtained at the bridge. Attached to all 30 statues is a unique chop. Teams will have to chop, in the correct sequence and of correct chops, for all 10 statues they were stated to find. Once they think they got their answer, they will hand it to a man standing at the Statuary of the Holy Crucifix and Calvary. If the team member is correct, he will hand them their next clue. If not, the team member will be asked to re-do the task.

Jessica: I'll do it, Ashley.
Ashley: Right, good luck!

Zoey: Wow, the girls are fast.
Thomas: Come on. Roadblock!
Zoey: This seems more of a mind challenge, Dad. You should do it.
Thomas: I will.
Zoey: Think carefully, Dad. Don't rush it.

Phil: Teams must now fly from the Czech Republic to the town of Bamako in the Western African country of Mali. Teams are on their own in the selection of flights and have freedom to choose any flight they want.

Zoey: Come on. We have to go NOW.
Thomas: I hear ya, Zoey.

Jessica: Is this correct?
Man: Yes, well done. Here's your next clue.
Jessica: Wohooo! Thanks.

Ashley: Come on, open it up, Jess.
Jessica: Fly to Bamako, Mali.
Ashley: AWESOME.
Jessica: Come on. Thomas & Zoey just overtook us. We gotta catch up with em' and hopefully catch an earlier flight with them.
Ashley: Alright. No room for error here.

Sean: Is this correct?
Man: I'm sorry but you got it wrong. Please re-do.
Sean (conf): It was a huge mistake to rush through the Roadblock. It honestly was.
Sean: Damn…

Jason: Is this okay?
Man: No, please re-do.

Tiffany: Come on, Michael. I expected this. I've got the route to Prague clearly mapped. Let's go so that none of the other teams can follow us.

Nicole: Come on, Jenn. We still can catch up.
Jenn: I know, I know. I'm coming!

Dorothy: Alright guys. Let's go together.
Florence: Sure Dorothy.

Lauren (conf): We immediately became really close acquaintances with Henry & Florence during our overnight stay in Pilsen. We immediately decided on forming the "Grandparent-Alliance" and we hoped to be able to help each other avoid elimination for the legs to come.

Florence (conf): It's always good to make some friends and allies and why not form these bonds with a team so similar to us.

Dorothy: Alright, you guys know the way?
Florence: Yeah we do. Follow us.
Dorothy: Alright, thanks!
Dorothy (conf): We may be old but we're not going out without a fight.

**The 4 teams from the 7.30am departure all got onto the same 5pm flight as Melissa & Sean and Jason & Nicholas**

Phil: All teams are now on respective flights from the Czech Republic to Bamako, Mali, making this a journey of 2800 miles.

Jessica & Ashley and Thomas & Zoey, while on different flights, will land in Mali at the same time, almost 2 hours ahead of the rest of the teams who are on a slower flight to Mali.

Once teams land in Bamako, they have to drive themselves to Medina Coura Market to find their next clue.

Zoey (conf): I was honestly shocked that Jessica & Ashley had managed to reach Bamako at the same time as us. Those guys are pretty good at airports, I guess.

Jessica: Hey, you guys wanna try to get to this place together?
Thomas: Alright, sure.

Ashley (conf): We had to rush for all our flights and didn't have time to research on the location or to even get maps. So we immediately allied ourselves with Thomas & Zoey.

Thomas: Off we go… to Medina Coura Market.
Ashley: Alright. Let's get going.

Melissa: And one of the 6 teams on this flight could be the ones out this round.

Phil: Teams have to buy 10 long pieces of cloth from one of the marked stalls and then using traditional methods of "setting the dye", wash them in a vinegar solution. After teams completely wash the 10 pieces of cloth, a stall-holder will hand them their next clue.

Jessica: C'mon, c'mon let's go!

Thomas: Yah yah. Geez.

Ashley: How much… for 10?
Stall holder: 2000 francs.

Ashley: Yeah me too but can we hurry and wash these cloth now?

Thomas: Zoey. don't do it like that. Wash it really quick, soak it and then leave it. It's much more efficient.
Zoey (conf): Dad does know best. We got it done pretty quickly.

Phil: Teams now have to make their way by taxi to the Hills and Caves near Point G where they will find their next clue.

Jenn (conf): This was definitely a really bad leg for us… Nothing seemed to go right.

**Thomas & Zoey are the 1st team to arrive at the Hills and Caves**

Thomas: Thanks, sir.
Zoey: Come on, Dad. The clue box's right ahead.
Thomas: Slow down, Zoey.
Zoey: Dad…!
Thomas (conf): I was just EXHAUSTED after we left the taxi. I didn't know why but I was… and it was so much harder to race with that fatigue.

Zoey: Detour. Artistic or Adventurous.

Phil: A Detour is a choice between 2 tasks. Each with its own pros and cons. In this Detour, teams have to choose between Artistic and Adventurous.

In Artistic, teams have to enter 7 caves, each 200 meters away from each other. In each of the caves, teams will have to remember what cave painting was in each. Then, after visiting all the 7 caves, they have to make their way back outside the first cave where a Mali local would show them all 7 paintings and teams have to indicate which cave each painting was from. Once they give the local all the correct answers, they will receive their next clue. If not, that team must redo the entire task again.

In Adventurous, teams have to proceed to the deepest cave and they will have to rappel (with the help of safety officials) down to the bottom of the dark cave, filled with cold muddy water filled with non-venomous insects. Once both team members are at the bottom of the cave, they will have to search around 1 of only 6 clues in the murky waters.

Zoey: Dad. Are you up for the adventure one?
Thomas: I dunno, Zoey. I don't feel very energized right now.
Zoey: Come on Dad. Maybe this will wake you up.
Thomas: Oh yeah fine. Nothing's better in waking you up then filthy, muddy, infested water.
Zoey: Let's just go already.

Dorothy: Lauren. Wash it like this. It's much faster.

Florence: Man. I hate this task. I feel like puking because of the sourness of the vinegar.
Henry: At least we don't have to drink it or something.

Lauren: Take a taxi to Point G and look for the hills and caves near it. Once there, search the area for your next clue.

Florence: You guys go ahead.

Michael (conf): We came into the task feeing confident. Probably overly confident. We didn't understand the complexity of the task. Having to run such a long distance and remember the intricate details of the painting and its locations wasn't a mean feat.

Nicholas: Adventure. Let's go now. 2 teams are still here.
Jason: Man. We caught up real good.
Nicholas: Yeah we did.

*Jason & Nicholas finish the task efficiently and surge ahead, leaping 2 spots up, overtaking Michael/Tiff and Melissa/Sean*

Jason: YEAH.
Nicholas: Great job.
Jason: Those morons who choose the painting ones… are still doing the task!
Nicholas: Pay attention, Jason, and you would have realized we're going to the pit-stop now!
