Colour me shocked. SHOCKED!
Given that no winner has gone off to megastardom, I'm not surprised. I guess SYTYCDC will be its summer replacement. |

Not suprised either.
I'm sure the straws to break the camels back was Evas major tank in the charts and SYTYCDKanada's success. Now they have a new ratings grabber and vote grabber, they can kiss Idol goodbye. I did think they'd finish the last two seasons in their contract. Theo is going to release an album from winning a show that was cancelled before its release. lol. |

Not surprised. Not surprised at all. Not like I was attached to this show.

Is this true? Is there an official link for this news?
Not that I'm surprised, but I have to admit I'm a bit saddened by this. The show was cheesy fun, even if it was an epic fail in terms of producing successful artists. |

*gasp* Aussie Idol too? I'm sure AI will last a couple more years then it will be gone.

Well neither is official, but it doesn't look good
The future of Australian Idol appears unsure, because two of its top sponsors (Telstra, and Procter & Gamble) have dropped their support, amidst fears the show cannot rebound from a decrease of 19% in ratings from last year, which has resulted in a decrease of $482 million from Channel Ten's market value, also following the channel's refusal to air American Idol. |

I'll believe it when I hear an official announcement. But yeah it doesn't look good. They could always take a few years off an then bring it back. I don't think how unsuccessful the winners have been has anything to do with it. It's all about ratings. |

True, but the long list of flops creates negative buzz for the show, which leads to lower ratings over time. People get discouraged when the contestants they
spent all season voting for slide into obscurity as soon as the show is over. After a certain point they probably say "why bother?"
They need to do an All-Star Edition and bring back Kalan, Theresa and Jacob. |

For an All-Stars edition you would actually need stars. Everyone except for Jacob are has beens. Or in most recent seasons, no beens.
Brian and Tara live like a 15-20 minute drive from me in some normal residential area. AIers live in multi million dollar homes (least most of the winners or big names). Brian lives in a modestly small townhome. Your right in saying that the no buzz from these Idols creates a negative backlash for the show. I think for the first 3 seasons, it did give some of these kids a decent shot at something but when the Idols fell to the wayside, the public just stopped caring and they flopped almost out of the gate. The show just doesn't work here. Period. Never will. Canadians are not invested in their own home music. They want American/British music and thats it. Gone are the days our radio and t.v. airwaves were filled with many multi-platinum homegrown stars. I still think CI7 is a go but probably the last one. |

i would agree ... i expect to see a CI7, and barring the best.season.ever. ... it'll probably be the last one
not too surprising, still sad tho =( |

Part of the reason why they didn't make it big is because the Idol franchise won't allow them exposure outside of Canada. No TV, Radio or Tours outside
Canada really handicaps them. In 2003 they had the CI winner on the American Idol Christmas Special but his performance was not shown to the US TV audience,
only the Canadians saw him and the US got commercials or something instead.
The Canadian artists, that made it big, all crossed over to the US. Bryan Adams, Loverboy, Sarah McLachlan, Celine Dion and Nickelback, to name a few, were all released internationally. It all ties into radio, American radio hits make it to Canadian radio playlists and that drives sales. The few spins the CI artists get are purely to satisfy Canadian Content Laws but they never get enough label support to matter much.

kennethp21 wrote:Advanced KKKanada victory? Also, you have to take note that as the season went on, so did the production values of this show. The later seasons had gotten more glamorous and high-end (newer stage, having a live band, inviting A-listers) yet the winners themselves have received less and less public and radio support which translates to CTV losing big amounts of money. Compared to the first three seasons of the show, when the show still had a low-budget, modest look and feel, the winners at least had some kind of support. Sales were good. Singles were being played. Idol contestants became household names. |

I love how the majority of people read that the shows gone forever when it doesn't even say that. |

TV networks don't actually use the word "cancelled" anymore. They use cute euphemisms like "indefinite hiatus" or "temporarily
pulled off the schedule" or "taking an extended break".
Which all amounts to the same thing, really. |

I think its gone for good too. Fuck, they are cancelling all my fucking shows, especially the summer ones.
