Do sort of remember there being a couple of hot guys in Blake's quartet, assuming Chris "not much talent" Richardson was one of the other guys.... Hadn't remembered that the Hollywood round was only one episode.

Yea, pjadedd. I routed against Fantasia, whom I could not stand. But didn't like Diane DeGarmo either, lol....

Hmmm, I just read about the format they're using this year.
While the groups format isn't perfect and has it's cons like groups being stacked and other groups being weaker, I think it'd be interesting to go back to it. I've grown tired of the 3 weeks of semis format. More so for Canadian Idol I've seen it more as people not having to be good, just having to be not the worst. Shitty people can slip into the Top 12 as long as they're not fodder, and not as bad as others for 3 weeks. With the groups at least you have to give a stand out performance to make it through. It's not perfect but I tend to think it's a little better. |

Aren't Matt Rogers and Jim Verraros good enough reasons not to go back to the old format?
Also I'm hating the increase to 36 semifinalists. They can't even find 24 people that are very talented so what makes them think they can find 36? |

Yes but with 36 they're only letting the 3 best through each week, and then 3 from the wildcard.

As for Jim and Matt, you have to remember two things. With Jim, it was season 1, when there was a lot of anti-Simon sentiment for being mean. With Matt, he
was in possibly the worst group ever, but actually had a personality.

I should have said hypothetically or in theory the best 3 would be going through.
Clearly there is rigging and stupid/fangirl voters to factor into the equation. |

Actually I agree completely with Lobster. David Cook was middle of the pack until the end of the semis. By top 11 or 10 week most people were saying the final
would have the two (surviving) Davids.
I thought Archie didn't give a single good performance from top 12 night all the way through top 4, then was better on top 3 night and the finale (it's probably not a coincidence that this happened AFTER his dad got booted from being backstage). But better doesn't mean great. By this point in the season most of our expectations for him were so low that his singing well at all may have gotten a bit magnified in our memories. And yeah, Matt Rogers WAS in the worst group of semifinalists ever (up till now, anyway). Winning personality or not (I say not; he seemed kind of sleazy and phony to me) he was an awful singer. Lisa Leuschner was the only one in the group who was any good at all. The other 7 were all terrible. |

I ONLY watch the auditions and so it looks like my already tenuous relationship with AI has come to an end. All they needed to do was not air the obvious
fakes.

I was reading Simon's interview on the website and they are bringing back the Wild Card. They are also going to have a 4th judge, and I don't know how
crazy I am about that. But as long as Simon is still there, I'm there!

My all-time favorite Idol post was a photochop of Carrie's Some Hearts CD, with an added caption saying it contained the song "Jesus Take The Wheel
(Noel Take The Hubcaps)." I often wonder who did it.
Group 2 was inches away from perfection. If it had Heather Piccininni insead of Lisa Leuschner and Jonah Moananu instead of Matt (who was awful, but not one of the all-time worst semifinalists) the show might have gone off the air permanantly, due to Simon and Randy quitting on the spot. |
