I'm glad they're going to show more of Hollywood and less of the stupid auditions, but still, eh.

Re kennethp21's comments on season 3: I think Amy and George also deserved to be in the top 12 (meaning 7 of the 12 didn't). Mantasia not only
didn't deserve to be in the top 12, but should have been told at her initial audition by the anonymous screeners that she sounded like Donald Duck, was
fugly besides, and wouldn't be going on to see Simon & Co.
I honestly don't know why anybody finds the 3 week semifinal format boring or bad compared to the awful season 1-3 one. It's fairer, we get to weed out people who are simply having ONE good week, we don't forget about people seen once a few weeks earlier, and it's produced 3 respectable groups of finalists (plus season 6's group, admittedly). I also think that if they had used the later top 24 format during season 2, it could have produced the strongest top 12 ever, instead of a good but flawed group (I'm thinking of Corey and Caaaaarmen). As some people have pointed out, if you've got enough good people auditioning the format won't ruin it, and if you don't it won't save it. Season 1 and especially season 3 had almost no good male singers; season 6 had very few good white females AND subpar males, and season 7 had very few good female singers of any kind. |

The 3 week semifinal format is horrid because by the top 10 we're already sick of them all.

I hate the return to having three groups of 12 perform once. These 36 have so much time to perfect and prepare one good song, have a showstopper, get into the
top 12...and then suck.
When they had to perform for a few rounds and the worst ones were eliminated (like in recent seasons), it gave some time for the contestants to develop, shake off the nerves from being on camera, and so on, so that otherwise good contestants would get more of a 'fair' chance and more than one chance to make the final 12. |

A possible scenario for the semifinals:
Each week, 12 contestants perform. The judges make their comments. The public votes. (DUH) On results night, the top three in the public vote automatically advance to the finals. Of the remaining nine, each judge will select one contestant to compete in the wild card. Those who do not make the top three or become a judge's pick will be eliminated from the competition, and each contestant (one at time) will learn their fate. This continues until we have 9 confirmed finalists and 12 confirmed wild card contestants. In the wild card round, the 12 lucky ones perform. The judges make their comments. The public votes. (DUH DUH) The six contestants with the lowest number of votes are eliminated from the competition, leaving six contestants vying for the three spots. The top two in the public vote go through to the finals, while the judges choose via consensus the 12th finalist. Each contestant (one at a time) will learn their fate. |

I thought a report already stated that the judges were picking all 3 wild cards.

Yeah, I've read that, too. A guaranteed way for them to get their plants in, just in case they choke or the public doesn't like them after their
initial performance.

I'm glad they are going back to the three groups of 12 format. The performers either have to bring it or they leave. In season 1 Kelly hadn't been
seen at all by the time her group came up and yet she knocked it out of the park! IMO it really forces them to give it their all instead of just giving good
enough to not be the worst one of the night.
Now, will some suckage get through? of course, but that only adds to the enjoyment of the show! |

Two rebuttal comments 1) If we're already sick of the contestants after just 3 weeks, we shouldn't be watching the show. 2) There have been just TWO
seasons where both of the people everybody "knew" were going to be in the finale actually got there: season 2 (Reuben & Clay) and last year (the
2 Davids). Designated winners Tamyra, Latoya, Chris and Melinda all failed to make it to the finale. And every season except season 2 had a shocker
elimination.
Finales aside, a lot of the fun is in the details. Who knew Syesha would be in the bottom 3 SEVEN times and survive every time? Stuff like that is what keeps us watching--we shouldn't be ashamed to admit it. |

I for once, shocker, agree with 8 track except one thing.
The Archbot was definitely a F2 shoe in from the beginning with the sob vocal paralysis story, blah blah blah. I don't, however, think anyone even remotely considered Cook an F2 contender until he closed out the Hello, Eleanor Rigby, Day Tripper run with Billie Jean. Even then, I wouldn't say he became guaranteed F2 until Always Be My Baby/Music of the Night. |

Yeah, I think most people had Carly or Michael in the finals with Arch early on. Cook was very middle of the road until the third week of the semis.
"Hello" slowly built him up, and then he built up his fan base. I disagree with Latoya being the designated winner in season 3. I thought Fantasia
was TCO from the beginning. After watching American Idol Rewind, Latoya wasn't noticed much by the judges until the later Hollywood rounds. Fantasia was
praised throughout and it was a given she was going to be in the final 12. Latoya gave a great semifinal performance, which put her on par (in many
people's eyes) with Fantasia. I think they were the expected final 2, but I always felt the judges had wanted Fantasia (who the hell knows why).

For the same reason they tongue bathed Archbot on F2 night. They're morons. *nods*
Anyway...I'm SO glad to see the group performances back in the Hollywood rounds. Those are the BEST. |

Oh Fantasia is horrific.
Archbot is okay. He just wasn't THAT good on F2 night. |

i fully realize i'm probably the only here who thinks this, but i thought fantasia was pretty good during the show, but SUCKED afterwards. her voice is
not my favorite, but technically, she was strong - no pitchiness, always professional sounding. during the show, she was restrained by the material she was
singing (ie. "summertime"), which is why she came across more "tastefully". when she was able to sing whatever she wanted to after the
show ended, then it became clear she has seriously BAD musical taste and is crazy.

Eh. I'm sort of glad to see more of the Hollywood rounds but all I can remember is that Blake Lewis trio hitting it out of the ball park and then the
entire lot of them turned out to be mediocre at best turds.
Fantasia was never my cuppa tea. Liked LaToya, sort of, that year, but not overly invested. I knew that Archie was an obvious top 12 contestant from his aw shucks, I'm too humble, sympathetic vocal cord paralysis story audition. The weekly tongue bath from Randy & Paula made me loathe him to no end..... He was mediocre at best from after Imagine until the final 2 night. |

fffingybyach wrote:Blake was actually in a quartet (the only one of his group not to make the semis was the oh so hot British transplant, Tom Lowe). And, don't go by season 6. They crammed all of Hollywood into one hour, which is so not enough time for everything. And, I agree about season 3. It was one of the only seasons where I wasn't really rooting for someone, but just hoping Fantasia wouldn't win. |
