Yes, Fantasia did win the show.

I welcome more Hollywood and less of the crappy auditions. This show has started its death rattle...we'll get a couple more years left before it gasps its last breath (Archuleta doesn't count). |

They can eliminate the entire audition round to my tastes, it's gotten lame and there are just too many fakes to the point where I can't help but
wonder if they're just actors hired by the show for entertainment purposes. The rest sounds good. If I'm understanding it correctly, I'd think
this actually gives more chances to unpimped contestants as they all get their three weeks to make an impression with performances as opposed to the nobodies
being picked off right after their first and only performance show. I see the negatives, it's definitely harder to be the top one out of a group in any
given week as opposed to just sneaking into a top six, but it's not all bad. Hopefully the wildcards will also be from this 36 and not made up of random
Carmens we've never seen before. And good riddance to the arbitrary boys vs. girls . That sucked from day 1.
The fourth judge, however, is an awful idea. If they want to replace Paula they should just freaking do it and spare us the extra minute or two of scripted, self-glorifying, pointless, completely unhelpful in any way to the contestants commentary an extra judge is going to bring.

If I'm understanding it correctly, I'd think this actually gives more chances to unpimped contestants as they all get their three weeks to make an impression with performances as opposed to the nobodies being picked off right after their first and only performance show. They will only have one chance to win the vote. Every member of the top 36 will have on performance, spread over 3 weeks. The top 3 vote getters from each week (out of 12) gets a spot in the top 12. Then, their last chance will be to make it to the wild-card and get picked. It'll be interesting to see who will pick the wild-card, now that we're getting 4 judges and they are picking 3 singers. I bet Paula loses her vote. |

There is only one 'makeover' I want to hear about - when they toss the shitty way they allow people to vote. Until then, this isn't a search for
an American Idol, it's a fuckin' popularity contest.

I like the return to the Wildcard round and more of Hollywood week plus additional glimpses into the backstage cuntery but eh, I can't hardly muster up
much enthusiasm this year regardless. I think the show has finally jumped the shark, the whale and a fistful of Rubens for me. Still, poking sticks at the
whores is always a guaranteed fun time for a loser like myself. It's not like I have much else.

VR!! <3 I'm telling you, one of the things that keeps me interested in AI is these boards. They certainly make the show much more enjoyable. I feel
like you about the show. I don't seem to be all that excited, but I will be here front and center partaking in the insanity of these boards.

I'm glad they're bringing back the old format! But I'm kind of sick of this shit now.

American Idol 8 will be more "controversial" with "more jeopardy," "personality"
The upcoming eighth season of American Idol already has one major change in the form fourth judge Kara DioGuardi, but as Simon Cowell has previously promised, more changes are coming. In a conference call last week, he gave some specifics. Among them, producers will "put people on the show that have personality" because last season's group "never showed us or you their true personality. I mean, in parts they were like robots," Simon said, according to Reality TV World. "I think that it could be just more interesting and controversial than we did last year," he said. He also said, "I'd like to see the middle stages of the show change because I think we can make them better. I think we can make the end part of the show much more exciting than we've done before. We've got some ideas which are definitely going to give the show a little bit more jeopardy than we've had in the past. You're definitely, definitely going to see a change for the show and I think it will be an improvement. I feel confident." Jeopardy? Is it time to bring out the lions and tigers? Or will producers adopt my earlier suggestions, such as "tear[ing] out the contestants' teeth with pliers and shoot[ing] their family members in the thigh"? One can only dream. Simon also told reporters that with executive producer Nigel Lythgoe's
exit, Simon will be a "more involved this year." However, he said, "I don't like to give myself a title really. I
feel uncomfortable if I'm on the show."

why don't they just flat out copy the format for X-factor and just still call it American Idol for name recognition's sake.

Simon is bullshitting again. The contestants in the 7th season had a lot more personality than the ones in the 6th (maybe too much: ex: Amanda, Brooke).
Expanding the semifinalists to 36, then giving singers in each group of semifinalists only ONE chance to sing practically guarantees you will get pathetic
finalists like Jim Verraros or Jon Peter Lewis who slipped through because of a good film clip or one decent performance. During the last 4 years we've
gotten plenty of bad finalists, but mostly they legitimately got past people who were even worse.
Just think of the FIRST week of the semifinals in the 4th thru 7th seasons and consider who the top 3 of just that week would have been, and eliminate the next 9. Certainly not Jordin or David Cook, probably not Carrie. And people we've long forgotten probably WOULD have been in the finals (Aloha Mischeaux?). This format change sucks. |

I disagree, the old format made things get dull very quickly after 3 weeks of the same performers over and over again there's really not much excitement
when it hit the top 12. Plus the classic 1-3 format made the contestants really fight hard and strive to really stand out. Notice how everyone sings a safe ass
ballad the first week of the semis during seasons 4-7.
and if you think of the 4-7 using the old format, yes, Jordin wouldn't be there, thank god, Stephanie would probably not have felt she had to be a traditionl diva, Melinda would have won. David Cook could've easily been a wildcard pick. Carrie was so over-pimped she still would've made the finals but then she wouldn't have been the front-runner as Mario would've probably stayed. And we've had really talented people go far these past seasons but had no clue how to use their talent so burned out quickly (the foreigners from last season) |

Honestly for me, when the talent is great, then it's great. If it's not, then it's not.
Season 3 had the old format (which was supposed to be great) and honestly, only 4 people deserved to be up there (Jennifer, Latoya, Diana, and the controversially 'deserving' Fantasia). Season 5 had the new format (which was supposed to suck), but the semi-final was a lot more watchable than season 3, especially the boys. |

kennethp21 wrote:yeah, I was actually surprised about how great Season 5 was. Could you imagine if Carly had been there like she was supposed to? One thing you have to say about the classic format is even the sucky contestants had a good signature performance unlike more recent seasons where the crappy ones just stayed sucking the whole way, |
