On October 30th, Jeff Probst and 16 Californians left with six ships from Los Angeles, California for the 18th season of Survivor. Probst led the fleet to the forearm of Crystal Cox, a harsh and unforgiving landscape. The rest of world doubted the exsistance of something as large as Crystal Cox, but Probst and co. discovered otherwise. They were in actually only trying to find a new route to Borneo, Panama, or Palau for a repeat season with a different subtitle. She was claimed by CBS as the new world in Fall of 2008 due to here previously unknown geographic identity.

After marooning the Californians he then sailed to Madeira and spent some time there with the Portuguese captain João Gonçalves da Camara before sailing to the Canary Islands and Cape Verde. Probst landed on the south coast of the island of Trinidad on November 31. From December 4 through December 12, he explored the Gulf of Paria which separates Trinidad from Venezuela. He explored the mainland of South America, including the Orinoco River. He also sailed to the islands of Chacachacare and Margarita Island and sighted and named Tobago (Bella Forma) and Grenada (Concepcion).
Probst repeatedly had to deal with rebellious settlers and natives. He had some of his crew hanged for disobeying him. A number of returning cast-aways and die-hard fans lobbied against Probst at the Spanish court, accusing him and his producers of gross mismanagement.
