It added an interesting twist when they did NOT put out a second idol this season, with the surprising result that Bob made not one but two very convincing fakes.The only reason they didn't put out a second one was because Sugar held onto it since Episode 2 and didn't play it until the last possible night. If she had played it before then, or had been voted off without playing it, it would have been re-hidden for sure. And it would have been just as lame as the string of people finding it in Micronesia.

When an idol can kick people out of the game, it's ridiculous. Now, if they changed the rules so it can be played after the votes are cast with a revote if it's played, then I'd be ok with it. But so far Guatemala is the only season with an acceptable hidden immunity idol. The reason I've liked Gabon so much is that the idol has taken a backseat to real strategy. I'll get on that. |

The way the idol worked in CI and Panama was really stupid, but the way it works now is cool, especially when it leads to stuff like the horsemen misplaying
it.
However, it does get repetitive having at least one idol each season that does the same thing. What they could do is have some seasons with the idol and some without, or they could come up with idols that did something other than give somebody immunity, like one that forces a person to go to exile island and miss a tribal council. However, the constant replanting of the idol after it is used/knocked out is really, really annoying. Having 3 II in a season is a little excessive. |

Didn't you have to give the idol to another person BEFORE the Tribal Council? I thought so too. I'm pretty sure that was the case in the hidden idol's early years. There was a specific process to handing off the idol and it had to be done on camera before TC. That's one of the reasons Terry didn't hand it off to whatever alliance mate got the boot. Perhaps that changed when the idol had to be played before the votes were read. That would make sense. Also as far as previous examples of idols changing hands, apparently Yau-Man and Earl shared their first idol back and forth. |

Man...if Terry and Yul could have given their idol up after the votes were read, I might have stopped watching the show. Still, it didn't make a difference
here except for the fact that most of the suspense was gone.

I've always said that as the show develops, so will contestants' strategies, and we saw proof of that in Exile Island, the first idol dominated season
itself. Before EI, who the fuck knew of the "boot the goat" strategy. That was Cirie's creation, and it did not require an idol (in fact, she
probably would have won had there been no idol). I've spoken about this a lot before, and I don't feel like doing it again right now. Maybe later.
