Aunt Pappy said she still had dial-up in the Christmas tree thread. We're from the same city, so I'm pretty sure she has access to faster connections! Why do people still have dial-up when it's sooooooooo slow?

I refuse to go through our cable company for cable internet. DSL is not yet provided on our road. When it is, that's when I'll get it.
And DC, I don't think we're from the same town....we're just both close to the big city. |

some parts of a city aren't served by either DSL or cable internet, especially the rural areas or the sparsely settled parts

I won't go cable either - when Ike hit Galveston and Houston, the first reponders, servicewise, were the electrical company and the phone company
5 days for phone and my DSL connection to get back up and almost two weeks before cable/cable internet (neighbor's) was back on |

And I went through hell and high water to get the extra phone line in for my computer. I've suffered for it, too...every time there's lightning, our
main phone line rings. I think the kid who hooked us up was an idiot or something.

Dial-up sucks. It is a very slow speed and it was the very first internet connection before high speed.

I had dial up for a few months when I first moved out and it wasn't that bad once you were on, but it took forever to connect and wouldn't always
connect.

The download of movies and music videos are took 30-75 minutes long. I downloaded a music video in my LimeWire and it took only 37 minutes to download.

I've blocked most memories of dial-up from my mind forever. But I vaguely recall that after each click I made I could go to the bathroom, then go to the kitchen and make a sandwich arriving back to the computer just in time to STILL wait 20 seconds for the page to load <3. |
