December 10, 2008 - A self-proclaimed mean girl, and proud of it, Corinne wasn't going to win many popularity contests on Survivor: Gabon - however, she did form a key alliance early on that seemed destined for victory, as her
original tribe, Kota, kept winning challenges. Things changed in recent weeks however, and on the most recent episode, Corinne was voted out.
I spoke to her to find out what she thought about Randy playing a fake idol provided by Bob; why she seemed so angry towards Sugar in her parting words, and more. IGN: How did you come to be on the show? Corinne: That's a good question. I have no experience being outside and had no desire to get dirty and do all that stuff. I got recruited. A really great girl found me on MySpace, just by chance. She asked me to come in. And again, I didn't seek this. I had to quit my pharmaceutical job in order to do it. So it was a really big risk for me, and I definitely needed some convincing. I was not somebody who was seeking it. IGN: Once you were recruited, how familiar did you get with the show? Corinne: Once I was recruited, I watched every single episode I could get my hands on. I watched probably five or six seasons worth. Prior to that, I hadn't seen much at all. IGN: Cramming for it, it's easy to see the importance of alliances. Were you surprised how quickly the initial "Onion Alliance" came together? Corinne: First of all, the initial alliance was Ménage à Kota, not the Onion. I don't know why that name came about. I need to correct that! Honestly, day 1, Ace, Sugar… these were the people that were aligning. And the people who didn't do that were me, Jacquie, Marcus and Charlie, and we were kind of waiting for things to happen organically, and they did. So really it wasn't until probably the third day where we really came together, although on TV it looks like we did it in the first five minutes.

Corinne in Survivor: Gabon
Corinne: Well, Ménage à Kota were Marcus, Charlie and myself. The whole concept is that I'm trying to turn Charlie straight, and Charlie is trying to turn Marcus gay. So it's like a whole little… Ménage à Kota! IGN: So you guys were obviously on quite a role as far as the wins were concerned. Did it ever make you feel like things were going so well, nothing could go wrong? Corinne: Oh no, please. I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop. I was still very concerned, and I did think it was too good to be true. But I did not know they were going to twist it up as much as they did. It's one thing for the first time they had the twist, where they line us up on the poles and Sugar doesn't get picked at all. That whole thing I understood. But after that, there was no reason to twist it two more times. IGN: What did you think of Marcus wanting to throw out the idol? Did you have any doubts about that? Corinne: Oh no, I wanted to get rid of that idol, because first of all, if you go after the idol, you're shark bait. That's a bad idea. And I don't want anyone else to have it. And honestly, we thought we were merging, and if we were merging, we didn't need it, you know? So why would I want somebody on the other side to get it. What we really should have done, looking back and knowing what I know now, is Randy found it; Randy should have kept it and should have given it to whoever needed it from our alliance. But that would have made Randy a target. So, I don't really know what the right answer is. Obviously, I'm sure Marcus wishes he had it. It's pretty ironic that he was the next to go, and he was part of the reason it was thrown out. IGN: How surprised were you that Marcus was the next to go? Corinne: Here's the problem. Honestly, Marcus was in a really tough spot. But he knew - we had discussed that if anything happens, Crystal is the next to go. He never should have moved from that plan. The thing where he knew her cousin and he decided that made her a good person… He shouldn't have veered from the plan, because it messes things up and Susie was a wild card to begin with. I was obviously very shocked, just because Marcus was somebody got along with. He's not somebody who you're gunning for, especially when you're still on separate tribes and you kind of need to win. So yeah, I was shocked, I was upset, and I knew that meant bad news for my alliance, and it was really unfortunate. IGN: So then you guys merge, and things really start to turn… Corinne: …Ugly? Literally, they were unattractive. [Laughs] IGN: When the situation with Bob and the idol occurred, what did you
think when it was revealed to be fake?
- CBS
Corinne: Yeah. You know what's unfortunate? I have no idea why CBS does this, but they did not show what really happened, which is that Bob was taken aside by Sugar and told, "Everyone wants to vote you out." You see even on my episode, they were gunning for bob, because Bob's the most dangerous guy. He can do crazy stuff with the immunity challenges. They wanted to get him out. So she said to him, "I will keep you. We will all agree to keep you in the game one more round if you agree to embarrass Randy, because we all hate him so much that we're willing to keep you one more round if you agree to do this." And Bob had no option. He basically was told either he goes home that night or he throws Randy under the bus, not realizing of course how awful they were going to treat Randy. I mean, there's no reason for that! You can have somebody use a fake idol and you don't need to laugh in his face the way that they were. That's disgusting. Even I wouldn't do that, and I'm a pretty nasty person. IGN: You guys had a pretty interesting plan on your last episode as far as making this second fake idol. Going into tribal council, what did you think your chances were? Corinne: Oh, please, I thought my chances were one in a million. These people, I was trying to rationalize them and play smart with them, and I realized maybe too late in the game that they were all not playing smart. So I decided to come up with this ridiculous plan that no smart person like Marcus, Randy or Charlie would ever buy, but these idiots probably will. What I didn't factor in was that Crystal and Kenny totally thought that it was a real idol, which is ridiculous. I mean, this is the second fake idol, made by the same guy! It was an asinine plan. They fell for it and then decided to flush it out. I could never have assumed they would have done that. IGN: Just by Kenny casting a vote for Matty, it's clear that if nothing else, you have disrupted what's to come. Corinne: Oh yeah. IGN: Obviously you're disappointed to be out, but was there some satisfaction knowing you still affected further events in the game? Corinne: It felt great knowing I threw a grenade into their little tight five. IGN: That gave you some joy on the way out? Corinne: Yes, but honestly, I didn't know at the time that Kenny had told Crystal to flush the thing out; to vote for me instead of Matty. I really felt bad for Kenny, because I thought, "Now I've cost this kid the game. It's unfortunate." He was very kind to me, the whole time I was on the tribe with him and I liked him. So I felt bad. But now, looking at what really happened, I don't give a s**t. He deserves it. IGN: So overall, how was this whole experience? Corinne: Um… You know… I have mixed emotions. I gave up everything to do it. I lost a job. I was going to transfer out to California from New York and I had to give it up. I think Survivor is a once in a lifetime experience and I certainly don't regret it, but really, if you don't win the million, you're all losers, right? There's only one winner, so it's disappointing. |

Corinne: No, there's a misconception that I didn't like Sugar because she did something to me. She didn't contribute to me being voted out. She had nothing to do with anything. The reason I didn't like her was purely because I think she's the most annoying person I've ever met and I couldn't stand living with her. She's very high maintenance. She's just really irritating to be around. If you look at the way the show is edited, it looks like Crystalis really hard to live with and difficult to get along with. That's totally untrue. She's really present. She's really soft spoken. When you say, "Do you want to make the rice now or later," she says, "Oh, whatever you want."Massive Crystal <3 And LOL at Crystal being called "soft spoken." Maybe she really can win this thing. |

She's dumb and you have to entertain her, because you don't want to fight with anybody - you know that's not smart. If I am not mistaken Corrine even said she is too dumb to have found the idol in an episode early on. So the "dumb" one has outwitted her at least once even if Corrine does not want to admit it. |
