The only way that Micronesia could have been successfully edited is if a fan won because then, they couldn't only focus on the favorites. Also it was a 20 people season, that definitely didn't help. And JaMalle that was Gary's boot episode. Awesome TC. Same one where he told everyone they could get Steph's autograph after the show.

I love blindsides, just not ones produced by an arbitrary and totally inappropriate device forced into the game by producers. Blindsides should come about through the castaways actions not influenced by an idol, like when Rupert was booted or when Marcus was.

They can have an idol if they want and I personally welcome that change. The reason there were so many blindsides in Pearl Islands was because of the even more unfair outcast twist so your logic is weird

The Outcast twist, or seperating the casts into male and female tribes, swaps, things like that are ok because they serve what the show is about. It's like this: either you believe the show is primarily about the castaways, or you think it is about "utility"(a farcical term, I'll get to that). I think the whole point of the show is about the players, if the twists don't serve the need to produce interesting interactions and stratagy, it is pointless. We have basically seen everything the HII can do, and I find absolutly NO entertainment value based on blindsides from hiis or false ones. Except for Gabon, no "idle" season has produced satisfying blindsides in an organic sense, and Marcus' exithad nothing to do with the idol.

Maybe once in a while something like what Gary had would be ok, but to revolve every season around it in some way is a bit ridiculous.

Even the trip to Exile Island managed to be an inspiring detour. Plus, the fact that there was so much animosity between people leading up to the payoff of the fake idol really sent things into the stratosphere. Nobody is going to forget Sugar or Crystal's voting rants years down the road.

You just gotta admit it, without its introduction, Survivor would've been canceled by now because nothing new happens. With the hidden immunity idol, it always provides the best episodes.

How about no. Read my post earlier in the thread where the final 6 in Micronesia is the worst ever. Gabon is a great season, and guess what, the idol has not been a major part in it outside of Fang looking in Sugar's bag/Randy's boot. That's no coincidence. The idol was great the way it worked in Guatemala, that's it.

That's a bit of a stretch. The hidden idol makes for a handful of decent moments each season, but the problem is how even when it doesn't come into play it still eats up a chunk of time each episode. Gabon has actually been pretty good about this, but the three before it weren't (even my beloved China gave it way too much attention from Sherea's boot to James'). I know it won't happen, but I'd love to see the idol just take a few seasons off. Seriously, what haven't we seen multiple times already related to the idol? There has been: -Successful playing of the idol (Gary, Yau-man, Amanda) -Unnecessary playing of the idol (Alex, Earl--although I can't blame him since it was the last time it could be used so he might as well have) -Somehow holding onto the idol without using it and outlasting its usefulness (Terry, Yul) -Someone holding onto the idol and getting voted out (James, Ozzy, Jason) -Someone playing a fake idol (Jaime, Eliza, Randy) -Someone trying to barter with the idol (Terry) -Someone using the idol as a coercion tactic (Yul) -Someone openly displaying their idol (Yul) -People searching through others' belongings to see if they have an idol (Alex/Mookie, Jaime/Erik, Natalie, Crystal) -People creating decoy idols to fool other players (Yau-man, Ozzy, Bob) -People giving the idol to someone else (Mookie to Alex?, Todd to James, Sugar to Ace) -People intentionally throwing away an idol (Gabon F10) -Idols hidden around camp (Guatemala, Fiji) -Idols hidden at Exile (Panama, Cook Islands, Micronesia, Gabon) -Idols in plain sight at camp (China) What's left? An idol that nobody finds? Somebody losing their idol accidentally? Someone getting voted out by a person they give the idol too (i.e. exact same thing Natalie did with Erik only with the necklace that time)? Someone being medically evacuated because of some toxic paint used in the creation of the idol (I'm surprised this didn't happen in Micronesia)?

James then left in the least emotional medivac ever, then we get 10 minutes of Amanda searching for the idol. Then she gets back to camp...and it's the same thing of her digging. Add the fact that it's obvious she found it due to the "suspenseful" editing. Oh, Alexis had gotten 0 screen time cough because she was leaving due to a twist so the editors couldn't have the audience like her and get mad when she left cough meaning no one gave a shit about her. You cannot care about a blindside if you don't like/hate/feel anything about the person leaving. Sure, Amanda yelled at Erik for no reason at TC, then she acted like she didn't have the idol. Oh wow...exciting stuff. Then again, it's Amanda, a favorite, knocking out a "retarded fan" who, of course, didn't do anything because the favorites DOMINATED the game. Amanda made a ton of strategic decisions during Micronesia like finding the idol and putting Ozzy's dick in her mouth, so we have to love her. Wow, how was she my favorite during China? ETA- Sorry about the rant. A little tired of hearing how Micronesia was the best season ever and how the fans were all morons just because the editing said so. It was an exciting season but I think history will not view it as well as it was viewed at the time (does that make sense?) On re-watch, it's already not as good as the first time I watched it. Meanwhile I just rewatched Vanuatu and it was as good as the first time I saw it; when I re-watched China I actually liked it better than the first time I saw it.
