4. Neji Hyuuga




Neji has an extremely cool original power and he's dependable which is why he ranks high. He was an arrogant jerk early on though so this is where I'm putting him




Neji is cooler looking pre-time skip, but of everybody, he probably had 1 of the better changes. He stood out early on for having the same eyes as Hinata and being called the strongest Genin of his grade. He was a jerk to Hinata and of course I was rooting for Naruto against him



From there, Neji turned cool going from heel to good guy, and became a very strong fighter for Konoha like in the battle to save Sasuke. I love it when former enemies fight on the same side, so it was great to see him put his talent to good use, and he really is 1 of a kind

2. Shino Aburame

Of all the characters in Naruto, I find Shino to be 1 of the most original. From his powers to his personality, I don't think there's any other anime character like him



First off, he was very noticeable. You practically couldn't see his face and he was very mysterious from the start. He's under the radar yet not because you do notice him



At the Chuunin Exam, when Naruto reunited with his old classmates and rivals, I knew all the Genins were going to be more significant than I originally thought. I was interested to see what Shino would be like since we'd seen and heard from him maybe the least of all the Genins at that point



Instantly I knew he was pretty strong since he was 1 of the few Genins who could cheat on the information gathering portion of the exam, and then his team was the 2nd to arrive at the end of the test right behind Gaara's



The real shocker came at the tournament portion of the Chuunin Exam when we saw his bug power in full force. Obviously it was very unique, and no anime character has had such a thing before



To my delight Shino ended up being even stronger than I originally expected, easily beating Zaku, and being cool and sort of vicious about it too. He had the Orochimaru music in the background as he used his kikaichuu to utterly destroy Zaku's arms, and the best thing about it was sort of Zaku's fault, because he'd warned him ahead of time to quit and not to use his weapons. Tough yet fair!



So at that point, I knew Konoha actually had a badboy on their side. Whereas the Sand and Sound seemed to have all the intimidating and cruel fighters, Konoha had a bunch of cowards or weirdos. Shino's power was creepy and mysterious and I like a good mix of good and bad. In this case, Shino could seem kind of evil with his creepy power and cruel way of fighting, yet still was a "good guy" which I like



Shino's power is actually quite strong, and I think he'll play an important part of the story. The author is saving him for something big which is why he wasn't with the other Genin boys to save Sasuke. I think he might be the strongest Genin of the group and he's both powerful and a good strategist so he's a good mix of Neji and Shikamaru to me



The downside is we don't see much of him, but he gets a high rank for uniqueness. I like the idea of having lots of small living henchmen as his power, and the only other kind of thing that's kind of like that in anime that I know of is Kuchiki Byakuya's sakura petal bankai

1. Sakura Haruno





Sort of like Shikamaru, at the start of the series, Sakura was very plain and unimpressive. Unlike Shikamaru though, you knew she'd be a big character since she was sort of a main character in like the 3rd episode where she fights with Ino and the teams get picked





Sakura started off annoying. She was mean to Naruto unnecessarily and was a bratty Sasuke-tard. She was also quickly passed up by Naruto, but that's not surprising since she's a weaker female



I was wondering if Sakura was going to continue being irrelevant, but eventually the big payoff was that she'd turned into a major underdog and a fine woman. She improved drastically--perhaps the most of her peers after the timeskip. She seems to be the strongest female of the original genins right now



This was made clear when she helped beat Sasori whose name I've forgotten along with Chiyo, which is freaking crazy. Chiyo of course deserves more credit, but a huunin beating somebody of Akatsuki level?! He's supposed to be stronger than Deidara, who'd beaten Gaara up by himself, so this was a major accomplishment and totally put Sakura in the cool category forever



With all my complaints about girls being healers, I really do like healing people. I just don't like how that's like the female role, but that gives Sakura a major edge. She's become Tsunade II, and I love that she has super strength to really accentuate that she's a "strong woman". Even better, she's more feminine to me than Tsunade, so I like her more. I love that she's a genius at the fundamentals and being a medical ninja, making her more important than most people now. She seems to have surpasses all the other girls, helping her underdog story. I like characters who grow and change, and Sakura is dynamic in that way. Even if she wasn't as pretty as Ino or as strong as the gifted guys, Sakura has become my favorite and I hope she continues to play a major role in the story!
