Are they still claiming NEL are random? |

I don't even remember the last season a NEL happened during the first half of the race (if ever?).
But I'm old. I hate that they always bunch up these NEL. |

5, 7 and 10 and 11 had NEL's on episode 5

They bunch it up because having NELs at the beginning part of the race will incur a higher logistic costs since more teams = more money spent on vehicle rentals, tasks expansions, flights...etc It's true that they shouldn't compromise the quality of the show because of this little bit of money but, oh well. |

They've never claimed it was random, have they? Pre-determined maybe, but even that may be up for discussion (e.g. Taiwan leg of TARA3).

I wish they'd put NELs early, that way if you have a team that does poorly early on, they have another chance. I mean, just look at Ron & Kelly/Nate
& Jenn. They did HORRIBLY in the first leg, and yet they came back to make the final 4. If they'd been eliminated in leg one, we never would've
seen what they were capable of.

Mark and Bill.And... Duke/Lauren Amanda/Chris Steve/Josh Debbie/Bianca Wanda/Desiree Every NEL later than Episode 5 has been fucking atrocious recently - we've had teams finish last in back-to-back episodes for three seasons (David/Mary, Dustin/Kandice, Danny/Oswald, Kynt/Vyxin. On the two occasions that hasn't happened, it's done even worse and saved the only shitty team in the TAR11 + TAR12 Final 4, eventually letting them win. |

Yeah. With the current NELs, they come with so few teams left that the last-placers have a horribly difficult time making up ground. Put NELs earlier and
you've got more teams with a better chance of surviving. The way it is now, it's like they enjoy showing teams that they've still got a chance,
and then utterly screwing them over.

Sometimes I really hate the NEL. I guess it keeps teams trying though thinking they may have a chance to be saved

I think they should do away with it, but not tell them. ;) I hate NELs and a couple of winners have won when they made it past the NEL. If you are ever last
you should go home.

The NEL HAS been useful in the past though, keeping around some entertaining and good teams.
Momily Team Guido Cha Chas Blake & Paige Flo & Zach Kelly & Jon Bowling Moms Colin & Christie Adam & Rebecca Meredith & Gretchen The three non-boring families in the final 4 of TAR8 BJ & Tyler Beauty Queens Guido and Cha Chas again Goths Yeah, it much just delay the inevitable, but it gives great teams more airtime. |

And yet, worse than UTR yet snarky black people, awesome Southern parents, dating nerds, a Latina mother-daughter duo, or Glamazons, making them solidly in the middle of the pack. |

Yeah, it much just delay the inevitable, but it gives great teams more airtime.Since there is so much debate about whether any of those teams are decent, it would make more sense for them to be earlier - even with teams who were undeniably colourful like Danny/Oswald and David/Mary, their stay of execution was painful to watch and produced some really terrible episodes. Sandy/Francesca being last in Episode 1 of TARA1 then getting an NEL and surviving until the finale proves how good the early NELs can be. The last NELs that produced good TV were the BJ/Tyler ones, though other than them the only teams I was 100% pleased got saved after the first three seasons were Kelly/Jon, Don/MJ and the Weavers (and Colin/Christie for drama potential, though if they'd won because of it, it could have been disastrous). |

The thing is, I wouldn't care if the NELs were bunched at the end if the episodes were really good, however that is rarely the case. Italy was good because
of the focus on teams that hadn't gotten much in the way of storyline (i.e. teams other than Ron/Chris and Jen/Nate). Osaka sucked because it was tres
obvious that TK/Rachel would be last.
I don't want to turn this into another TAR 3 <3 thread, but all three NELs that season were great. This is still fucking intense:

Didn't Mary/Dave, the pathetic couples who live in a hole all their life got NEL twice? Ya, cause TAR wanted them so much...but unfortunately, they
couldn't make it too obvious...
