Melinda Doolittle's debut album, "Coming Back To You" is #20 on the iTunes Albums chart and #5 on the iTunes Pop chart.how the heck did she do it with little to zero promotions? |

SO good so far from what I've listened to. I really hope she has success. It's just what I had hoped for in a CD from Melinda. It transported me back
to a really cool time where singers could really SING with SOUL. <3

Do I have to drink 3 bottles before I can appreciate that wine or will a glass do? How big a slab of cheese we talking?

I bought her CD yesterday. I love it! Old school practically the whole way through (including the cover, which looks like an LP cover) and all the better for
it. No guest rappers here, thank god. About half the album sounds like something from Stax records circa 1967, with prominent saxes and background vocalists,
like something Carla Thomas might have done. The other half sounds very much like a Gladys Knight record, c. 1973, complete with proto-discoish strings. Only 2
of the 13 cuts sound at all contemporary (one could have been on Jennifer Hudson's CD) and with their slightly screechy oversinging, they are the weakest
songs here. I have no idea if this will sell at all - probably not. Most of the people who'd like it best don't buy many CDs and won't even know it
exists. This needs to be marketed on oldies stations or something like that to get anywhere. But move over, Kelly, Carrie, Jennifer & Elliot...this may be
the best album ever done by an American Idol contestant!

From Melinda Doolittle Friday, February 6, 2009First Week...
Hey ya'll! First of all I need to say a huge thank you for making this a wonderful release week for me. Your excitement and well wishes have been
priceless. I owe you big time for being so wonderful to me. It has been quite a full week and we are just getting started! I am having loads of sleepy fun.
Hehehe...
So, a little recap so far... I got to meet Flava Flav while I was doing an appearance on Good Day New York! It was so exciting. He was one of the sweetest guys. So it was the best way to start off my release day. By the way, Kelley made sure she got a picture with Flav too...which is so out of character for her and happens to be the cutest thing ever! Then I met up with some guys on Sirius Radio. They have a show called OutQ with Larry and Keith and I don't know when I've had so much fun on the radio! I think I pretty much laughed the entire time. Not really sure if I said anything during the interview because they were so hilarious!!! Oh! Anthony Federov (AI Season 4) was also there, so I got to talk to him for awhile. He's such a sweetie and I love his voice! I also got to go and be a part of a live web show called Strategy Room on Foxnews.com. I was on a panel there and sat next to none other than RuPaul! May I just say that he is a beautiful man! He was so nice to me...even though we disagreed on whether Heath Ledger deserved an Academy Award nod for the Dark Knight. (I think he did!) Then my daddy came in town to hang out with us during the Associated Press interview and then take Kelley and I to my favorite spot for apple pie...McCormick and Schmicks!!!! Grandma's upside down apple pie people! My release day was almost complete... We ended the night with a live video chat watching the first night of Hollywood week on Idol. I will have to say...there is nothing like getting to see what 80 people are thinking as it is happening. Sorry I couldn't keep up with everyone and answer all the questions but we will definitely have to do it again! So...that was Tuesday! Whew... On Wednesday, I spent the morning doing a very fun Satellite Tour...thanks Scott! That means I got to sit in a chair and talk to all kinds of cool people both on the radio and on tv. It was really cool to talk to all different cities while I was sitting in one spot. Then I got to hang with the guys at Newsweek.com. I love how they thing outside of the box with their interviews. Fun for me! After that, we jumped on the 6 1/2 hour flight to LA and went straight into band rehearsal when we landed. So cool! The band in phenomenal. Can't wait for you to hear them. Your first chance is Wednesday on Ellen! Have I ever mentioned I love Ellen?!?! I am so flippin' excited about going on her show...dream come true!!! Then yesterday, I got to go do Grammy radio! I got to talk to so many fun DJs and even meet some people I love...Smokey Robinson (oh my gosh!), Eva LaRue from CSI:Miami (I love her...and her 2 gorgeous sisters) and the Jabbawockeez!!!! I love them! Then Kelley thought she saw Blair Underwood, but it turned out to be Wayne Brady. (She's gonna kill me for telling you guys that) He was really cool...I think he may have challenged me to a game of air hockey. I can take him! :-) And today I got to hang out with two of my favorite TV friends, Kimberly Caldwell and Justin Guarini on TV Guide Idol Wap. It's going to air tonight and all weekend long so check your local listings. So for those who asked what I was up to...that's a little taste. Sorry it's so long. :-) By the way...I love you guys and I know that none of this would be possible without your help. Thank you from the very bottom of my heart! Me |

Thanks for posting that. I always liked Melinda, and she really does seem like a genuine person. I hope the CD does well for her, and considering it had no
promotion it did ok on the itunes chart. I'm hoping word of mouth and some good reviews will help it along. Sounds like she's doing some press which
can't hurt. Melinda <3
And 8Track, I loved the CD like you did. |

I got the album, it's freakin sweet. Who was the judge who said she took each word of whatever song she's singing to heart? cause man they were right
Melinda is awesome whatever song she sings and you feel every syllable . It's reopening the wounds right now that she didn't win Season 6.

Whoops, I admit I didnt read the article the first time around "May I just say that he is a beautiful man!" Melinda @ RuPaul Can you imagine Mandisa doing this interview? "OMG I sat next to a satan in the form of RuPaul!!!! Heath Ledger deserved an oscar??? Didn't Brokeback Mountain gross you out? *shudders* " |

I'm pretty sure Melinda loves everyone. She's <3
I'm lazy and I've been busy so I haven't listened to the CD yet but I want to do so this afternoon. I put my iPod on shuffle to go to sleep last night and I had forgotten I already transferred Melinda's CD to it. I heard this song I was like "what is this?" and then I was like hmm, I really like it, sounds like ummm Melinda. Then I looked and it was one of the songs. It was so soothing. I think this would be a great CD to listen to when you just wanna relax and listen to something great. |

There are a couple kick ass upbeat songs on there too, with the big horn section kicking in and all. It's a great CD.

I just saw the news on the sucks chart thread. For her first week she's at Billboard #58, with 10,900 copies sold. I am disappointed but not surprised.
With the proper promotion she might be able to up her weekly figures a little, but it's obviously not going to be a big hit.

I was watching the Disney World Idol event and Melinda was there looking fierce, I think she was the best dressed female of them all. Although it breaks my
heart that when the 7 Winners were given awards and posed for a picture, it wasn't Melinda getting the one for season 6
