I also believe the estate tax is a step in the direction of an equal playing field, but obviously that doesn't pertain to the consensus I was referring to. But may I be blunt? It strikes me that someone as crazy as you should not be particularly complacent about letting individuals' faculties and talents decide their place in society.

When the richest use their power in Washington to lower their taxes as much as possible, they don't stamp themselves as stealing or beginning a class war. Now, I'm not saying that the richest should always be taxed more no matter what. I'm saying that the tax code should be representative of it's time. When the middle-class is disappearing and a small group of individuals is making historically disproportionate amount of money, lower the taxes on the middle-class and raise taxes on the upper class. When the middle-class is extremely strong and the upper-class is stifled, do the opposite. It's all about balance and staying connected to the real-world. That's a fair tax system.

It was the utter lack of regulation and government oversight which led to subprime mortgage fall-out and tanking economy. Theory is nice. The theory holds up just fine. Government intervention is the poison at work throughout the mess. The government has characterized as "deregulation" them apparently looking the other way when in fact the bad mortgages got made because the government forced lenders to make the bad loans on threat of losing their rating as lenders and being branded as "racist". Your post is proof that they succeeded in fooling people AGAIN. It's really a shame. Where do you get your information from?
