Top Chef is not above making an annoying idiot asshole the winner (ie Ilan)

Jamie is way more talented from what we've seen than Lisa was. Jamie is consistently on top whereas Lisa was consistently fucking retarded and awful. Lisa
only made Top 3 for her drama and entertainment factor, it was obvious Steph or Richard would win over her so they just threw her in for good TV. As annoying
as Jamie may be at least she deserves to be there.
With that said I agree that she needs to stop making fucking scallops. Excellent you redeemed yourself, move on. As for Fantasy Top Chef, so funny, good job. I always love little things like that to add some entertainment to a thread. Love it. "Toast" killed me. |

yeah, I'm afraid fabio's cooking skills aren't as great as his personality.

Also, I would say that HBR would have been bottom three (if not eliminated) on at least one of the elimination challenges if she hadn't won the quickfire and therefore been immune. I think her cooking is at least as inconsistent as Jamie's or Fabio's, if not more so... The big difference (to me at least) is that Jamie's usually in the top with a few appearances in the bottom. Radhika is usually in the middle, with a few appearances at the top and the bottom. Somebody who is usually near the top is a contender. Somebody who is usually in the middle is fodder... |

I think some of us are being too hard on Fabio and I wouldn't consider him as doing poorly. He's never been in the bottom 3 or in danger of going home
as of yet.
Week 1 it was Fabio v. Jeff to make a Latin dish -- it was a split decision by the judges giving Jeff the win, both dishes were well-liked. Technically not a loss and he was nowhere near the bottom 3. Week 2 Fabio won with his carpaccio. Week 3 Fabio was on the winning team and his pumkin tiramisu earned raves Week 4 Fabio was in the top 3 and if the Today Show hags had any taste, he would have won. Week 5 Fabio was stuck with "Something Blue" and his team was in the bottom 2 teams of 4. Eugene, Carla & Danny were the Bottom 3. Week 6 Fabio was stuck with 8 Ladies Dancing and he made crab cakes. While he wasn't in the top 3, he wasn't in the bottom either. Week 7 Fabio's lamb was slightly undercooked, although his ravioli & musrhoom sauce earned raves. He wasn't in the top 3, but he also wasn't in the bottom. All in all, he's doing above average. Nothing he has made has been downright terrible and ripped apart by the judges and he's never been in the bottom 3. He had a few highs and a couple of mediocres. He definitely is still poised for a chance to win the whole thing. |

When you break it down like that, you're right. He seems more solid than I've been thinking. Has he been in the bottom a few times on quickfires? Is
that why I feel like he's going downhill?

HBR is mildly entertaining but I think it's fair to call her boring. I disagree on her being petty though, how is she petty?
Is this about the Stefan thing b/c imo I think she's totally right about him. From what's been shown he's a fucking loud, annoying douchebag and I would not want to be in the kitchen with him. |

He wasn't in the top or bottom Ep 4. Amuse Bouche w/Rocco the douche. Fabio was in the bottom, because he didn't take a piece of toast, put some bacon & bullshit egg on it. Basically, Rocco is a fan of the savory & real Italians do sweets for breakfast. Ep. 5. The Palate test to "Name that Ingredient" Fabio didn't make it past the 1st round, but I think it's because he didn't understand the rules. Ep. 6. One Pot Challenge w/Martha. Fabio was in the bottom 3 for his seared duck breast & polenta (which looked delish), but apparently Martha's NJ Homemaker palate doesn't compute good food and she prefers things that taste buttery that are made w/o butter. Fabio's grandmama is going to kick Martha's ass. Ep. 7. Desert w/o Sugar -- Frenchie had an ax to grind with Italy and wasn't impressed with Fabio's cream. HOWEVER, not in the bottom. So, he was only in the bottom on 2 quick fires and I blame the judges Rocco & Martha Stewart (personally, I'm not a fan of either, so their opinions mean nothing to me.) In my eyes Fabio was never in the bottom during a quickfire. ;-) |

In my eyes Fabio was never in the bottom during a quickfire. ;-) I'd almost say that getting cut in the first round of the palate challenge also counts as being in the bottom group... Maybe that's too harsh... I love Fabio and hope he's a finalist. I'm relieved to see that my sense that he's been crashing and burning may not be accurate. |

I guess I've just been extra worried because I really like the guy and hate to see him dissed like he's been. but you're right about not giving a rat's ass about martha (who even dissed his gra'ma), rocco (not the "real" italian) and frenchie (who wasn't going to give fabio a chance in hell based on a euro prejudice). |

Since Fabio gets more airtime than anyone, I seriously doubt he's going anywhere soon.

One thing that bugs me (apart from the pretension of the judges and the contestants) is the fact that there doesn't seem to be a clear goal here. What does
the winner get? $100,000, a spread in some magazine, and a "showcase" at a pretentious food and wine event that no one can afford to attend.
They're not even competing to see who is the best undiscovered chef in the country. On Idol, they're competing for a record contract. On Top Model,
they're competing for a modeling contract. Survivor and TAR, it's a cool million bucks. Even the winner of The Next Food Network Star gets his or her
own show. Granted, Project Runway has a similar prize package to Top Chef, but both relative amateurs and seasoned pros compete on that show, so it could be
determined that it will launch or re-launch their careers. On Top Chef, 99.9% of all the contestants have been working in fancy-shmancy restaurants for years.
They're not green; they're seasoned pros. It's not like they'll get their own restaurant or cooking show by winning Top Chef. What the fuck is
the point of this goddamn show?

AlexDSSF wrote: IMO, the show is the point. I don't give a shit about the Idol winner's recording contract or the ANTM winner's modelling contract. I watch the show for the entertainment it offers, and once it is over, I don't care if I ever hear from/about the contestants again. The $100,000 and the opportunity to fame-whore it on TV is more than enough incentive to get hordes of applicants to compete. Above and beyond that, who really cares? |
