In light of last nights episode as well as the recent thrashing of me by a few posters over my optimistic appraisal of suture seasons ratings, I am just going
to turn this into a thread where I can hopefully get my thoughts on the show into coherent criticism. First of all, I enjoyed last nights episode, but it also
highlighted something that has been bothering me for a while. I have always said that it is not the cast that makes a boring season, it is the editing. My
question is: Why the need for the generic challenge music? Why don't they ever play the traditional theme at challenges anymore? That is simply bad
editing. Infact, the awful music is what ruined the whole episode in my opinion. What made PI a great season was partly its great nature shots dovetailed with
the great theme of that season. It's just lazy.
Secondly, the double boot still leaves open the possibly for a final 3( :fuckingangry), but it still leaves hope for a final 2! |

It's possible they don't have the rights to the generic Survivor music some seasons. I mean, I'm sure they have to negotiate those from Russ
Landau, or whoever, on a season by season basis. Maybe they are just being cheap and hoping the fans don't notice. It wouldn't surprise me. Survivor
has always been famous for being a high profit compared to low cost show. Maybe this is how they do it. When the sponsors dry up, they start cutting corners.
I have definitely seen a LOT less love put into the music and the editing in recent seasons. I mean, go back and watch Australia or (particularly) Africa. The music in challenge after challenge was epic. It's completely different from how they do it anymore. |

Not during a competition, but the last time I heard it used was the second episode of Panama, where Bruce joined the Casaya tribe.
There are some thuings though that can't be explained by economics. Like they don't even line up the extinguished torches on a platform anymore, they haven't done that since Amazon I believe. Also, I really miss Fallen Comrades. And if they are going to use luxery items as a prize in a reward challenge, why have they only done so once? Its these little things with no explanation that bug me, it's almost like they are ruining the atmosphere of the show on purpose. |

Can we have at least one episode without puzzle pieces assembling stuff? Or if they only recycle previous challenges, at least recycle the pre-ASS ones.

Tis alright, the more the merrier, right? Fiji had a good cast, and would of been pretty awesome had they just cut some fat(dump a few UTR people to make it 16
or 18 castways, make the good camp up for reward every time).

This opening narration is a case study in how heavy handed the editing is.
