A businessperson can only pay $2 if someone is willing to work for $2. If nobody will take the job, he is forced to offer more money. OR, if he doesn't care for the quality of employee he finds at $2 per hour, then he has to offer more money to attract a better kind of person. Supply & Demand. The poor have gotten innumerable benefits in the capitalist system. Or have you not realized that the TVs, kitchen appliances and computers and cell phones that so many so-called poor people have? Think about what real poverty is - back breaking labour all day every day. Hell, even someone who doesn't own their own washing machine can go to a laundromat. They don't have to scrub their clothing by hand. Why should things just be handed to people BECAUSE they are "poor"? Why don't they have to earn it like everyone else has????

People here, not so much. Even the poorest of the poor have the sort of stuff poor people around the world would only dream of.

Although imo, if there were a national sales tax, you would have to add clothing to the necessities list. You shouldn't have to pay tax on clothing, or at least on clothing that is under a certain dollar amount. I realize that taxes cannot be completely abolished overnight - it will take some time. Look on the bright side: getting of taxes, tariffs, quotas, subsidies, all kinds of non-defense oriented government services will increase real wealth, real prosperity, real wage rises and real increases in standard of living for everybody.
