Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America is the nation's first and largest group dedicated to the Troops and Veterans of the wars in Iraq
and Afghanistan, and the civilian supporters of those Troops and Veterans.
The mission of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America is to ensure the enactment of policies that properly provide for our Troops & Veterans, keep our military strong, and guarantee our national security for the purpose of a stronger America. IAVA uniquely empowers Iraq & Afghanistan combat veterans to use their credibility and experiences to speak truth to power, shape public opinion, and place a priority on these issues. The IAVA Action Fund is the foremost nonprofit, non-partisan advocate for our nation's returning warriors and their families. Our 2008 Veteran Report Card, based on the key veterans' legislation that came to a vote during the 110th Congress, grades every Senator and Representative on their level of support for our troops.Among the 100 US Senators, Barack Obama got a grade of "B" the same grade as Joe Biden. http://iava.www.capwiz.co...1&lvl=C&chamber=S John McCain got a grade of "D". Two others got a "D" (Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and Mike Enzi of Wyoming) and only one got an "F" (Jim Demint of South Carolina) http://iava.www.capwiz.co...2&lvl=C&chamber=S Only five Congressman received a grade of "D": John Campbell of California, Chris Cannon of Utah, John Duncan of Tennessee, Thomas Tancredo of Colorado and Ron Paul of Texas Republican Senators like Dick Lugar, Chuck Hagel and Arlen Spector got "A"s, as did Independents like Bernie Sanders and Joe Leiberman. http://www.iava.org http://www.veteranreportcard.org http://www.veteranreportcard.org/reportcard.pdf |

Looks like good ole General Petraeus made statements that bolstered Obama's foreign-policy proposals.
Throughout Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign, the Republican nominee has wrapped himself in the mantle of U.S. Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, proclaiming himself the leading advocate of the former commanding general in Iraq who devised last year's controversial troop surge. Yet during a talk Wednesday about Iraq at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative Washington policy organization, Petraeus repeatedly made statements that bolstered the foreign-policy proposals of Sen. Barack Obama, McCain's Democratic rival, or cut against McCain's own lines. Petraeus relinquished command in Iraq last month. He assumes responsibility for U.S. Central Command later this month, putting him in charge of U.S. forces in the Middle East and South Asia.
