I'm just going by what the libs always complain about. Like I said watch 60 Minutes and see how "safe" everything is. Perhaps you dont' remember when Bush first got into office and he was being blamed for the arsenic levels in US drinking water after Clinton signed off on tightening the arsenic levels during his last hours in office (which was a nice political move on Clinton's part I must say). I just don't think that government does the best possible job it can doing any of these things since most of the money goes towards the bueaucracy and waste. Just look at the per pupil education spending in a city like Chicago and then take note of the complaints of people like Daley and Obama when they blabber on and on about how there's not enough money and how unfair it is. And then note how Obama can channel $100 million into education programs and not make a wit of difference. And they keep wanting more money every year even beyond the levels of inflation. My local property tax bill goes up every year with percentage increases to most of the scattergories that are listed that require local funding or they add new items plus they equalize the bill every few years. Apparently "equalization" means "increase" since it has never caused a "decrease." If there's no economy of having the government infrastructures in place I guess we can only expect increases until eventually 100% of our incomes are diverted to government. There's not really any accountability in government anymore since the system is so tangled that everyone in politics can point the finger towards someone else and they wouldn't ever admit doing anything wrong even if they're caught red-handed. We are going to be truly fucked by our government if we haven't already been. Just look at how new programs pushing for affordable housing for people who couldn't afford it has screwed up our economy over the past few weeks or months. But hey, they were important programs to "help" the disadvantaged among us even if the net result will be a crappy economy and lost jobs for those same disadvantaged people.

And what's the point of discussing undeveloped countries? They're not taxing us (yet). If your assumption is that we'll become an undeveloped country unless we pay more and more taxes then you're not making sense. You also don't have to go to undeveloped countries to experience less than modern living conditions. Even in 1972 when I went to Germany the family living in the farm areas were still using an outhouse and I don't recall them bitching as much a lazy-ass-slothy Americans do in 2008.

BTW, I can send you a bottle of water from my well and perhaps you could have it tested for me for chemical contaminants or infusion of material from my septic system or that of of one of my neighbors. Maybe you could put in a sprayer and check for poo-mist.
