well it's not exactly easy coming off the heels of the awesome TAR12 and the teams this season don't seem to be as funny as last season, these guys
seem to be more serious and competitive.

I have to admit, I was a little bored. I don't think it was the teams or even the tasks really.
It was the edit. Or, if that was the best stuff they could come up with, maybe it was the teams and the tasks! It just felt so "same old, same old" this time. The bickering couple because he cheated got far too much time, and they acted and sounded like too many other TAR teams to be interesting. I dunno, I would have liked to know why the steps must be climbed on your knees, a little context would have been nice. It also felt like, "Oh lookie, South America for the first leg again. Woo." Have they ever just headed west first? Asia or the Pacific Islands for a first leg? I love the show, and it will probably get better, but for a first episode it was kind of blah. |

Have they ever just headed west first? Asia or the Pacific Islands for a first leg?TAR10 did, which turned out to be a horrible move since they started with all the ridiculously hard tasks early on which caused arguably the longest stretch of painfully boring episodes in TAR history halfway through (Madagascar-Mauritius-Finland-Ukraine). |

I liked TAR10's course, but now that you put it like that you are kind of right...those middle legs were pretty awful.

Maybe they should have went east instead of west for TAR 10 to get those European countries out of the way. But still, I really liked that course.
I'd agree that the premiere was a little boring compared to TAR 12, but that season was amazing and it'll be hard to surpass it right out of the gate. |

In thinking about it, there are a lot of reasons that this season kick off just didn't cut it. So much time spent at the airport, (same one as last year
too, same freeways, same parking, yawn) but for what? They knew the flights (only 2!) to take, and also which one would arrive first before they even left the
starting line. So all of the "drama" was in driving and parking? There was nothing to figure out, no hustling done, basically a waste of air time
there. Then they bunched them, so the flights were irrelevant anyway, which, OK fine, but then don't waste so much time on the damn things.
At the very least, it would have been nice for them to start it in a different city. I love this show, but the editing this time made it seem so boring, I didn't get a feel for the country, or even the locations where they did the tasks. The teams seem generic, and all fit the TAR formula, with the only slightly colorful ones eliminated first. I wish that something had stood out, but really, it was forgettable. Hopefully it will pick up, and soon. |

Early days people. The first episide usually sucks. Nice switch on one Detour where normally the teams had to climb up and now it's down. The barista task was so not needed. Hell apart from delivering the coffee I would have the teams sell them as well! |

They need to do another African First leg. Way to much Europe & South America first legs these days. Plus i find the race most interesting in Africa or
Asia.

Now if CBS didn't take down the previous seasons I could find out info like that. I think they started out of California at least 5 times though. Hi

Hey Tammy! (its actually jhaphet, but its alright :) )
I actually looked at Wikipedia (geeky me... TAR 4 - Dodger Stadium TAR 5 - Sta. Monica Pier TAR 7 - Long Beach TAR 12 - Playboy Mansion TAR 13 - LA Coliseum They also started in New York twice (TAR1 and TAR 8), and Miami, also twice (TAR 3 and TAR 11). |

I don't see what the big deal about the starting city is. They spend like 15 minutes of the 1st episode there and no matter where it is it's just
driving to an airport and getting on a plane... at least the final city's not always in the same place.

Thingamajig wrote:The thing is... the starting city does impact the early impressions and hence, subsequent thoughts/feelings of the rest of the season. If we get a wacky starting location that has never been featured before like say, Arkansas... the freshness value for long-time fans definitely adds to the excitement and reduce the mundaness of the race as we keep hearing Phil open the season with the same ole, "This is X, California.... bla bla" I'm pretty sure that if TAR14 starts in Los Angeles again, many people will be annoyed. I mean even if they want to go somewhere with lots of flights and a very international airport, can't they change it to something used already but not that often like maybe New York or Chicago? |

They need to start in Atlanta. That's a busier airport than LAX.
