I take Relpax and it has saved my life. I get hormonal migraines, twice a month.

Used to get them all the time as a teenager.
Get them about once a year or so now, but can control onset with deep breathing when the visual shit kicks in. Or drugs if I don't get it early enough |

I may have tried Butalbital (sp?) - I've tried all sorts, but I tend to vomit up pills - the wafer (Maxalt) tends to be the only thing I can hold down during the migraine. There is a doctor on the mainland who handles migraines and only migraines, but it's almost a 6 month wait to get in to see him - so I'll try this other doc first. If I have to see the big gun, I will. |

LSD relieves cluster headaches. I saw it on House M.D.

Yanno, you may be on to something. I can honestly say that back in my acid dropping days, I never once had a migraine!

I used to get them when I was on the Pill. Stopped the Pill, migraines went away.
I would take codeine for them, and just sleep them off. Nothing much else I could do. |

I've had sinus headaches for years, sometimes they're brought on by changes in the weather, like when the barometer rises or falls sharply, but not
every time. I take Advil Cold and Sinus, it's the only one that works fastest. But I swear by hot wet compresses, hold it over where the pain is. You sound
like you get the same ones I do, so hold the compress over your cheek, beside your nose. Really, you'll know instinctively where to put it. When the
compress starts to cool, heat it up again. Keep it hot as you can stand for about 5 minutes. It will make your nose run, but THAT'S GOOD, it's
relieving the pressure in the sinus. It's mercifully FAST, but it doesnt' last long, but it should last until the drugs get a chance to kick in.

merkyl wrote: That's very true. In fact, if you look closely at a bottle of regular Exedrin Extra Strength and Exedrin Migraine.... same ingredients, different label. Migraines are not headaches. A headache is only a symptom of a migraine. This is my favorite page about myths on migraines. My neurologist sent it to me years ago. I've had migraines since I was 12 or 13. They're awful. I definitely had more in my teens and 20's than I do now in my 30's, but I still get them regularly enough. It used to be almost constant. I've tried all the meds. Right now I take MaxALT-MLT when I feel them coming on. About 8 weeks ago I had one so bad I ended up in the ER. NOrmally, I'd never do that, but well meaning people called 911 for me. I'm glad they did because I was a mess. My blood pressure was so high they thought I was about to have a stroke. They gave me all kinds of lovely IV medications and I was delirious for about 48 hours. Now, in addition to the MaxALT, I have Vicodin and Zofran on hand. My insurance is not all that happy about the MaxALT and the Zofran... $$$$$$$$$. But they work. I'm not thrilled, either. Even with insurance, my MaxALT costs me upwards fo $20 a pill. Worth every single penny sometimes, though. I do not take Topamax because I already take Diamox for my other neurological problem so I can only treat my migraines as they happen. Both Diamox and Topamax are carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and they have a terrible effect on the senses. I'm never hungry, and when I do eat everything tastes kind of bland. And forget drinking anything carbonated. It's the worst taste ever. |

My Trileptal helps, but it just really makes me uber-sleepy so I don't have to suffer the pain.

Yes, Vicc, that's about it.
Alternatively, you could get yourself a steam inhaler like this one. I have that one. You don't need the inhaling pads....you can use it with plain water. It works wonders for me when I start getting a respiratory infection. |

You can't take Maxalt and Zofran together, they're both Triptans. $20 a pill is cheap. My Imitrex is over $365 for 9 tablets.
And a lot of people say Topamax makes cola taste funny. (I've already mentioned that in this thread) Have you had this experience or are you just...oh, nevermind. I discussed this with Ogakor, I'm done. |
