about twice a year i get them. have been hospitalized for observation twice due to profuse wretching (iv drip). you have to know when one is beginning in order
to nip them in the bud with meds, and if you don't get them in their infancy, you are fucked. i used to have to shoot myself up with imitrex but now take a
beta blocker (observing ego is correct about the stroke factor) and a nasal spray-but they must be taken at the very first signs of a migraine, which is
sometimes hard to judge.

I charge people to come to the farm on the days I claim to see God. That's how you know the difference.

I have what the doc calls ocular migraines. They start with a rotating jagged circle in my field of vision which slowly spreads out until it disappears over
about a half hour or so. Their is a blind spot in the middle of the circle.
The pain is all in the eye, eyebrow and down the side of the nose. It is intense, but the duration is pretty short. The weird thing is, the doc says most people get migraines all their lives, tapering off as you get older, and I've never had them until the last couple of years. The first time it happened I thought I was having a stroke. |

Vicconius wrote:Vic you may have a sinusitis, doesn't sound like Migraines to me. This from WebMD: Pain and pressure in the face along with a stuffy or runny nose are the main symptoms of sinusitis. You also may have a yellow or greenish discharge from your nose. Leaning forward or moving your head often increases facial pain and pressure. The location of pain and tenderness may depend on which sinus is affected.

No side effects for me, I have heard a FEW people on the Topamax boards complain it makes soda taste funny and affects their memory, but everyone has to
complain about something. My Sister was on it before she died and never had anything but good results and weight loss either.
I had to tinker with the dosage (Dr.'s approval) to get it right, but that's normal with a new med) If you do (and I hope you don't) start getting regular migraines, please try this drug. It's the only prophylatic that EVER worked for me, and in 30 years I've tried them all. |

- Talk to your physician or a local Naturopath to rule out anything more serious and to make sure any supplements will be okay to take cause you should never
take any advice from the internet point blank. *Obvious!*
- Increase your calcium and magnesium. - CoEnzyme Q10. - Vitamin B Complex - Multi-vitamin and mineral complex. (Unless you eat 15 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, everyone should take one of these.) - Have smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day. - Walk everyday for at least 30 minutes. Get regular exercise but not when you have a headache. It will make it worse. - Avoid or reduce sugar, high salty or acidic foods. (Note: animal proteins are acidic foods.) - Eat your fruits and veggies!

Agreeance, their are trigger foods since migraines are caused by vasodialation of the blood vessles aboue the neck only. Mine are nitrates, nutra-sweet, wine,
and aged cheese. (really, any alcohol) and glare from the sun.
Try keeping a food diet for a week and see if yuo can pinpoint anything. Avoiding triggers, but that won't stop them completely. |

I knew about the Topamax as a nice preventive, and the only side effect I heard of was the weight loss. Not a bad one if you need it, too.

Most of the posters here need the weight loss, except me and Ogakor.

I've done most of that, although I will increase Vitiman B to see if that helps. I've also had all sorts of MRI's because at first my doc thought
it might be MS.
So far I've not noticed any foods/drink that set me off.... it's a muscle in my neck that starts to seize up. It feels like a know under my shoulderblade, and it gets tighter and tighter. I can only take the weakest muscle relaxants because I'm really sensitive to any meds that cause drowsyness. Anyway, after a couple of days of my neck being tight, the migraines start. And they stick around for days. Since the beginning of Sept, I've had 9 of them. I'm being sent to another Neurologist, and I'll ask about Topamax - I've been fighting them on the anti-seizure meds. I still think Botox is the most logical choice since the muscle is the culprit. I will despair if Botox doesn't work. If I could, I would rip that fucking muscle out with my bare hands! |

That sounds almost like cluster headaches, a type of migraine, or either tention HA. Have you tried (prescription) Butalbital (low dose barbituate) for the
tetision? My friend has the cluster HA and that's how they start out, I've never had them. Let me know what your new Neuro says,
thank god I live in a big city and see a guy who specializes in Migraines only and is one of the best in the country.

I know a couple of people who claim that diet sodas cause them migraines. Of course, caffeine deprivation can cause a hellacious headache, too.
