The dad's a jerk - using his kid to make a political statement.
The school can send home kids that they deem have on questionable clothing. In the parent handbook from the schools here, the dress code section has a list of lots of clothing types that are prohibited. One of the items listed is "t-shirts, sweatshirts, or other clothing with profanity or put downs" (plus other stuff related to drugs/violence). These handbooks are sent home with the kids at the beginning of the school year with a paper the parent has to sign and return stating he/she has read and understands the handbook. That dad won't have a leg to stand on in court. |

It's always the liberal establishments that turn into such crybabies over a stupid T shirt, while half of the girls dress like skanks. Which do you think
is more impressionable on today's youth?

You can't wear a shirt that says "Sarah Palin is a Cunt" to school, either, even if it is the truth.

*sigh*
So typical. If a liberal kid wore a shirt that said McCain is a terrorist's best friend and conservative parents complained, the school district would tell them to be more "open-minded". But turn it the other way around, and you bet the liberal American public school system will find a way to discriminate. That's the way it always is. If a conservative disagrees with a liberal, he or she is said to be "close-minded". But if a liberal disagrees with a conservative, they don't think twice about it. |

When I was in middle school, a kid was sent home for wearing an Anthrax shirt that said "Don't you %#@&in' look at me!" on the back (the
symbols were part of it...I'm not censoring myself here).
Years later, in the "Columbine era", a couple of high school kids in a town not far from here were kicked out of school (at least in the short term) for wearing black trenchcoats, which in the post-Columbine frenzy was taken as an endorsement of the "Trenchcoat Mafia". Black trenchcoats were a rather common fashion choice for goths and metalheads here throughout the 1990s. The point? Schools do this all the fucking time.

I used to wear a Beavis and Butt-Head tee to school that had the two hanging upside down over a marquee, the two were naked from the waist down and the marquee
spelled HELLO, LOOK AT OUR BUTTS.
Nobody said a fucking word. Then again my school was kinda fucked up. |

I encourage this child to wear the tee-shirt to school and then get the shit beat out of him by a group of black kids. Freedom of expression!

We always had kids in my high school having to either turn their t-shirts inside out or have to change them. If you didn't play along you were either sent
home for the day or suspended for three. Did the parent know before hand? Because if so regardless of what it said (lib or conserv) they damn well knew it
was inflammatory and was using their kid as basically a sandwich board for their own opinions.
That's the part that really bugs me. It's one thing to involve your child in the process of gov't at that age it's entirely another to use him as a tool in that process. If he didn't know then he's a bigger asshole for letting the kid think that was an okay stunt to pull. Holy shit my mom would have kicked MY ASS for getting in trouble for something that stupid in school. Like Maeve descending on me with flaming sword. My ass would have been grass. None of this "sue the school" "your rights are being taken away". It would have been "and if you think this is funny at all you will never see daylight again". "Making me take off work to come get your sassy ass." Heh. Damn she was a fine woman. |
