Hmm... this last post just made me think about something. I was thinking about this, and I'll provide a thought. Marcus isn't Adam. The snake is Ace, said so by all. He tempted Eve, Sugar, who we saw eating the apple. And Adam loses the Garden of Eden because of Eve. Who's the perfect guy out there? The guy who said that Sugar will play the idol and he could be gone? That's Matty. He was tempted to join Eve and the snake, and it will bite him. Marcus is the good guy who wins in the end. He'll gain some doubt, story, etc., later on. He's an Edgic textbook winner. And getting real, giving Marcus the confessional about giving Sugar immunity to eliminate someone "like Ace", he completed the story, in a sense. His decision to give her the necklace was given weight. I think anyway. I'll rewatch later. Had an eye exam today and was not feeling well. I'm not quite 39 and now was examined and need bifocals. I'm officially older than any of my friends now, even the ones born before me. Michael edited for spelling - the spellcheck can't read "Eden"?

What a great episode! I agree with the poster who thought Ace was an CPN a while back... whoever it was. And Corinne is back! :)
Due to time, I'm just going to go over the winners... 1) Marcus - because he's Marcus. 2) Randy - could win, but he does have a lot of tone... 3) Ken - though it's starting a little late, I can see him winning... But I think that the chances are about 1%. XD 4) Matty - past two episodes haven't helped him, but he's not out yet! |

hang in there, Michael. bifolics looked cool on Ben Franklin. Okay, since I'm digging this season's potential -aside from the pesky Marcus winning thing- I actually rewatched a whole bunch of episodes. If Marcus doesn't win, then they are certainly using him for a huge moment. The thing that I noticed this time was the constant use of Corrine telling us Bob is easy to use. A few cases of his being easy to fool- much like the case of Sugar with Ace. Watching the episodes knowing the outcome of latter episodes, I have the sneaky suspicion now that Bob will become a new cog for the Onions. And Crystal has received a lot of care to her edit. Gillian warned Susie that longevity for them hinges on Gillian staying or else Susie is next. |

Alright, here's what I saw this week. I love when the boot surprises me. Fangs for the memories Ace - MOR3 - I debated about OTT, is he so simplified as the snake. I decided against it, but I'd revisit it if need be. He overplayed, but he wasn't N, and that lead to surprise when the very N Crystal survived. Crystal - OTTN4 - She was one dimensional. Spilled rice, pouted, lashed out at people clearly shown to reach out to her, then the TC performance out of this world N with ridiculous complaining culminating in her mad that people offered her rice when she refused it then mad that they didn't save her some anyway. Nothing redeeming at all. You weren't glad she stayed, you're shocked she stayed and that Sugar, who called her bullcrap at TC, still voted with her. Ken - CPP3 - despite saddled with Crystal and pouting like her, Kenny took control of his situation. Boldface lied to Sugar, and she took the bait, but you're impressed that he did it. It's a weak P but enough I think, at least on a quick impression. Matty - CPM4 - He's not all N, he has a right to be fed up with Fang, but despite being the reasonable voice he's still turning on Sugar quickly with hatred for her performance. You see a balanced person. CP is weak, comparative to other this ep, but I know precisely why he made every move, how his thoughts affected him, and how it came about. Sugar CPM4 - She's made a big move with no good explanation why it made sense now, other than trusting Kenny. I think she's that lousy M because they left it to fans to decide, some see her taking control and being smart, others upset that she felt for a lie and gave up her biggest ally.
Kota Arms Bob - OTTPP2 - That's what PP is, you WILL love this man, he's called annoying by Randy and everyone at home either missed it or wondered what was wrong with Randy. One dimensional and forced to be P without question. Charlie - UTR1 - An UTR being ignored as opposed to hidden. Corrine - CPN4 - She thought out things on her own and with the onions. She's emotional, but still thinking down the line. It's a weak CP like Matty, but OTT doesn't fly and I didn't feel she was strictly MOR. While she egaggerated about stabbing Susie, the intent of the intent is to show her acting on emotional too quickly. I'm latching onto the quote about her alliance's reactions equaling hers. Dan - OTT2 - No real intended tone, that was last week. He's still useless, but here it was a cold, calculated decision, and Susie was as good of a choice overall, we should believe. Both had risk. Marcus - CPP4 - A little P tone and every thought focused down the road for Marcus, with editing weight highlighting them all. Randy - OTTN2 - Cements his place among Kota, with Marcus' eyes on him for further review. Enough call out to merit a slight N to me, but would rewatch should I get a close call this episode. I've forgotten what those are this season, but this episode had tons of tone. Susie - MORN2 - Called a moron, and seemed like it. Maybe OTT, I had to choose something. WINNER - Marcus FACING JURY - Randy, possibly Corrine, less possibly Sugar PS to Phoenix, love that yawning pic of Susie on the voting site! Michael

here's the deal I feel with Ken and Sugar- it was presented as helping her out, with the storyline reinforcing that Ace is bad news, using her (even if
that wasn't the real life case at all). Sugar says in her confessional that she doesn't trust Ken, and she KNOWs she doesn't trust Ace, and never
has.
Also, Ken has a confessional confiding in us that everyone thinks Sugar is dumb, but she's not- it's presented in a positive attribute from Ken. He may have told a bold face lie to her, but for the intents and purposes of the story, it was presented as building blocks for the two plucky underdogs to come together. Also, Ken had been tied up with Sugar's exhile storyline- he sellected her for the first trip, and cut shots of him reacting when she says they all think she's dumb. And now he's rebound by reinforcing and echoing Sugar's own thoughts that the others will think this, but that's not the case. Crystal also has been tied to the idol as well- maybe now they all use it together as a trio -who knows. And again, Sugar has stated that she doesn't know how to play the game, but she's learning. I still think the first two episodes eliminate her from winning- she just could have had a little bit more of a tweak -but I still think she has a strong case for facing the jury, especially with all the episode three information from Corrine, Ace and Bob. |

Every word out of Susie's mouth should have followed by a "TOURIST" stamp on her forehead.
She has no game and everything is about the experience and/or learning how to "play" = stay a while longer. |

Michael, what about mutli-focals? Surely they're more appropriate for someone who seeks to discover multiple layers in everything?
I can see how Marcus giving Sugar immunity may have brought to fruition the original quote about Ace letting Ace only think he's in charge. I also agree with your thesis of Matty being Adam. That would explain his initial overwhelmingly positive tone and his gradual transition to gullibility and self-destruction. Marcus edited as the personification of good? That I'm not so sure about. I think the emphasis on team and teamwork this season still needs to be played out. Perhaps it's in this light that we should consider Corinne's comment about equating herself with her team. The other comment I feel needs to be borne in mind is the 'last woman' quote. CL, it may well apply to Sugar; however, I sense a battle (of biblical proportions, lol) between positive Sugar and a stongly negative-tending Corinne. Who knows, if they end up somehow working together, we may even get a biblical parallel with the story of Naomi and Ruth with Boaz (Marcus) as the epicentre. Whatever, it's shaping up as very interesting, even if Marcus does eventually prevail. |

Episode 7: Sunrise of the End Game... ![]() ![]()
Kota Bob OTTP2 - ![]() ![]()
If anyone new to Edgic wants to know what OTTP looks like, this is it. The sequence of the vomiting grub and the snoozing Bob is a grisly combo. Charlie UTR1 -
Barely there Charlie. Corinne probably makes moves later on. Charlie looks like he'll just be roadkill. Corinne CPM4 - ![]() ![]()
"Stab her in the face" was shockingly hilarious, but I agree that her edit showed someone thinking all the time and in control of her emotions. Her checking in on Bob was sweet. Dan OTTN3 -
Corinne, "...I don't know if he was a former fatty or wasn't liked as a child. But, deep inside, he's like a little kid seeking approval." Ouch. If you want to go on a reality show, be careful what you wish for. Marcus CP4 - ...
The ep before the merge and we get this sort of imagery. All we lack now is the 360 chopper fly-by. He's Mister Strategic. Every move he makes gets a confessional telling us how on top of his game he is. And he gets to be big-hearted for Dan. We'll forgive him for stabbing Charlie in the back, because it's strategic and he wished he could have been nicer. Randy MORN3 -
I decided he's not quite OTTN this time. But, I'm really on the fence about it. This episode carefully placed Randy in an F-4 position. Godfadda Marcus tells us that Randy's going a long ways if he behaves himself. He gets some OTT SPV from Sugar at the RC: "This guy over here. He's so ugly. He's an ugly person. He's mean!"
Looks like he didn't get any mail. Figures. ![]()
Susie OTTN2 - ![]() ![]()
I had Susie down as MORN, but you can't give that to someone who's called crazy, loco in th' cabeza, Loony Tunes, certifiable. Fang ![]() ![]()
Ace MORN3 - ![]() ![]()
Not really a bad guy. A phony bullshit artist maybe, but not much of a villain. Still he gets enough negative SPV from Sugar, Kenny, and Crystal to rate the N. Crystal OTTM4 - ![]() ![]()
I would have gone with MOR before the TC. She screws up and she can be peevish, but she also showed that she knew what was going down more or less. But that blow-up at TC showed her OTT side again. Where Corinne is able to keep her game ahead of her emotions, Crystal has let her emotions take over the steering wheel. Kenny CP3 - ![]() ![]()
I would go with MOR. This was a very weak CP for me, based on this confessional: "Matty and Ace /break/ they're thinking to get rid of Crystal and it all depends on the pin-up girl, Sugar /break/ so /break/ yeah, I will /break/ lie /break/ in this game /break/ I will do /break/ everything /break/ in my power to get her to vote with me. Because my life and Crystal's life rest upon her." The editors made a big effort to make it clear that Kenny was lying to Sugar about Ace's intentions. This will be bad for Kenny in the future, but it bodes well for Sugar. Matty CPN4 - ![]() ![]()
Matty tells us throughout the episode about how defeated and desperate he's feeling in the game. We also get the hint that his chances are "hopeless": "I'm startin' to lose my spirit. I'm startin' to lose my hope. I'm hopeless." When a player makes a statement like this, they can be removed from anyone's winner list, be it ep1 or ep13. As for last week, JP's recap makes it clear that Matty was nothing more than a pawn in his alliance with Ace: "Ace made a heads-up play, when he pulled Matty into an alliance..." And Matty once again, tells us what a pathetic strategy he's bought into, when he repeats to Ace: "Sugar's gone and it's you and me to the merge, 100%!..." That's the most pathetic alliance I've heard yet. An f-2 to the merge?! It's clear that Ace never had any intention of losing Sugar for a long time if ever. Sugar CPP4 - ![]() ![]()
And speaking of our plucky little cutie. She got story-shaping galore this ep. She ain't winning this thing, but she's gonna be no push-over. The edit wants to show her as "smart" and aware, and fair. They went out of their way to make her moves reasonable and understandable this ep. They could easily have made her the baddy this time or the pawn. The edit walks us through every step of her thought process from start to finish. It's a tremendous amount of time and attention spent on telling Sugar's story: (Lots of cutting and pasting in these speeches.) Sugar Shack Speech - ![]() ![]()
"...I don't really know what the hell's happening in this game...Tryin' to survive! ...Thank god for Ace!...What's funny is I'm pretty sure we're using each other.. But /break/ I think my tribe /break/ thinks /break/ I'm /break/ naive /break/ and that I'm sticking with him out of stupidity /break/ but /break/ I'm /break/ sticking with him /break/ because /break/ he's the strongest player at this point... So, /break/ I just hope /break/ that they're all not just screwing me around." After Kenny tells her that Ace is targeting her: ![]()
"I don't trust Kenny. He might have been lying to me /break/ but /break/ I've been trusting /break/ the biggest snake in the game so far and I know that, so I don't know who to trust at any point in this game." Kenny tells us: "...She might be the pin-up girl, but she's smart!" Sugar, after she talks to Ace on the dock: ![]() ![]()
"When Ace asked me for the idol, I thought, maybe Kenny was telling the truth. Ace can finagle people much more than I've seen anybody do probably in my life, but he's definitely had my back..." The edit goes out of its way to make Sugar's blindside of Ace look more the fault of Ace for being a finagler and Kenny for lying to her. It seems a lot of character shaping for her arc to end any time soon. The end-game is looking to be fun. ............................................................................. Winner:

EPISODE 7 RATINGS | ||

Survivor: Gabon - Episode 7 (Ratings Watchdog)
I'm very sorry that I have to give really short explanations this week. This is the first chance I've had to even rewatch the episode. I'm hoping to be back in full force next week or the week after if not, but I've been buried by school work recently and I'm sure I'm not the only one…
New Fang Tribe
Ace: MOR3 A rather mild boot episode for him. He only got two confessionals and there wasn't really much from him aside from a strategy scene with Matty about the idol and then trying to get the idol from Sugar. I think he was just neutral but I could understand a very weak negative for him "using Sugar" and constantly saying that she's in his pocket.
Crystal: MORN4 I was originally going to give her OTTN because of the whole rice situation and especially her outburst at Tribal Council, but I felt that there was too much "other stuff" to her edit - I don't want to say complexity because it wasn't really complexity, but just some of her confessionals didn't really scream OTT to me and I felt like they kindof balanced out her edit a bit (ie. The confessional about Ace manipulating Matty and them targeting her). If this is a close-call, I could easily see myself changing back to OTT.
Ken: CP3 I'm seeing a lot of CPPs for him, but I think I missed where the positive was because I don't really see this as the intent at all, unless it has something to do with him aligning with Sugar (a positive player).
Matty: OTTN4 OTTN because everything about his edit was simply him whining or complaining about his tribe, about not having food, about losing, etc., so he was very simplified this week and his edit (surprisingly) had a negative tone attached to it. Even though he was sortof right to be complaining about Fang, it just seemed like OTTN was the intention to me.
Sugar: CP4 Definitely CP, but her tone in this episode is a little bit harder to figure out. I've said this before in other episodes, but I think her personality is naturally positive (ie. Her confessional on Exile conveys this well) and I don't necessarily think that's what the intent of the edit was. However, they definitely didn't make her betraying Ace out to be negative, which is important. She's clearly more Mixed than positive, but neutral might work too.
New Kota Tribe
Bob: OTTP2 Definitely OTTP for all the emphasis on the letter and even the way he was portrayed at the log-roll challenge.
Charlie: UTR1 One confessional and one Tribal Council question, which equals a 1 visibility when you compare it to the other people who got 2s.
Corinne: CPM4 I have to give her CPM if only for displaying two completely different sides in public and in confessional. Yes, she trashed Susie and said "I hate her, I hate her" but to Susie's face, she took the comment very well and reacted exactly how a smart player should have reacted. The only thing I wish we had is a quick line is confessional that gave us her insight on the situation rather than just her ranting, but I don't think OTTN really conveys the edit properly. Plus, she was even slightly positive at the Reward (recall her going over to Bob when he got his letters and saying "Your family loves you, Bob!")
Dan: OTT3 This was by far the hardest rating for me because all of his confessionals showed some complexity and self-awareness, as well as awareness of his position within Kota. Yet, everything seemed so simplified at the same time and like they were trying to make him into a caricature. Combine that with the SPV from people like Corinne and Marcus, and I ultimately decided to give him OTT over CP.
Marcus: CP4 This is the most clearly strategic Marcus has ever been all season and it's also the most visibility he's ever had. I definitely think he earns a CP for it and I don't think anyone's really arguing with that. (He also got an "Earl" shot on the edge of the crater at the Reward.) Perhaps a minor positive but not really.
Randy: MORN3 Randy got some negativity at the Reward Challenge by being overly harsh (especially with Sugar), which is where his N comes from. Aside from that, we saw him strategizing at the end of the episode and he had two confessionals, but nothing was particular significant or insightful enough for him to earn more than a MOR from me.
Susie: OTTM2 I almost went with OTTN because I definitely think Susie was extremely simplified as …, but she did have that positive-type confessional at the Reward Challenge so that made me change it to OTTM instead.
MOST POSSIBLE WINNER BY FAR:
Marcus
[HUGE GAP]
STILL REMOTELY POSSIBLE:
Ken
Especially after this episode, I would argue that there's no point to having a #2 choice, but I'm going to have to say that Ken is the only other person with even a remote chance right now (not even Randy, in my opinion). He had a very strong first episode including a confessional near the start that introduced his character. He's never had an episode where he was totally ignored (not even Episode 3, the debated INV1) and he's had a mix of strong strategic episodes plus some good MOR ones too. Also, he's managed to not get quite as much of the Fang negativity as other players have gotten (particular G.C., and then Crystal). I'd say this is about a 1% chance though and Marcus is a 99% chance.

flf- that's just great! real nifty. With all the screen grabs, it's like watching a mini-episode widdled down to the best moments. I think I agree
with your analysis 100%.
How could I have forgotten to mention Marcus' standing over the mountain's ledge? Doubtful any of us were surprised on that one. (I think I said to myself, 'c'mon Marcus, just one more step... one tiny little step.') And Sugar's marking off the days -still think she has the strongest chance to be Ozzy or Colby as runner-up. (Marcus won in real life, but she had the better story to use for the show- you don't throw out the baby with the bath water) And saw the image last night during the rewatch of Bob reclined in his death repose. Yum. (rewatching the past episodes, I think something is being made of reminding us Bob will go easily -indicating he won't; must rewatch Ace's talk to him regarding Ace/Bob using Sugar) I might be in the minority, but I'm really liking the casting for this season- I think everyone is mostly a bullseye. (though she's been neglected, everything that comes out of Susie's mouth makes me laugh; Crystal is dynamite casting; Corrine might be trying a little too hard in her confessionals but I like her) I never would have predicted that Charlie would be the one whose underutilized -I think he might go the way of Leann. Matty, while clearing having insightful confessionals, might just be used as the empthasis of Fang -the tribe that couldn't get anywhere, no matter how hard they tried. (his only endgame threads- Ace/Sugar/Ken and Dan/Susie/Randy- have both been dashed in the batch of episodes where they were mentioned -his storyline is always in the current, not the foreshadowed. And now we really have to pay attention to what will be recalled for the jury and the finalists. What will the conflicts be that come out in the questioning- so far I don't see anything (especially with Ace being gone and not on the jury). |

now we really have to pay attention to what will be recalled for the jury and the finalists.
- I'd say nothing if guaranteed but if I were to guess based in what's already been shown - Randy facing former Fangs he couldn't wait to turn on. Crystal particularly. Whoever Bob blames for taking him out may hear something. If Sugar is there at the end, Kenny will appreciate her game and vote for her. Sugar getting back everyone who called her a dumb blonde. Marcus cutting off Charlie. Kota is similar to Korror. So dominate that their game is on hold, and it's coming strong soon. Corrine rubbing someone the wrong way biting her. And gr, forget multi-focals, I want someone to send me a check to cover Lasik Surgery. Any takers? Michael |

So let me get this straight. Corinne the uber-bitch finally appears and wants to stab another player in the
face just because said player thought about voting for her, and several edgicers are giving her mixed tone ratings just because Corinne
was nice to Susie's face ? So Corinne gets positive tone just because she didn't beat the snot outta Susie right at that point ? Dan was pretty nice
to everyone too. Where are his P tone ratings ?
