Sugar - CPP. She was definitely placed as the person to make a choice this episode, and sucky RC or not, she was presented as adorably inept so the audience forgives her even if Matty won't. (The same thing occurred a few episodes back when her ineptitude in the bowling challenge still left Ace looking bad for yelling at her.)

Ken - CPP. The CP is a bit debatable, but he did explain his moves. The P is because he was definitely presented as standing up for Crystal who he felt was being unfairly treated (and it doesn't matter whether you actually like Crystal or not).

Crystal - MOR(N). She had her usual spat where she comes off a bit negatively, but I don't really feel that was the intent of the editors. We were meant to root for her to stay (though obviously it didn't work for everyone). There's no real positive moment so I can't go M in tone - it is either neutral or N.

Ace - MORN. Perhaps it was because it was such a crowded episode or perhaps it was to make it not so obvious that he would leave, but Ace didn't really get the development I would have expected for his boot episode. He's still negative though, and we're meant to be glad Sugar gave him the heave ho.

Matty - MORN. He's not quite one note enough for OTT - after all he did try to negotiate a blindside of Sugar with Ace for strategic reasons, but he sure is a complainer. The martyr complex wears thin after awhile.

Randy - OTTN. There's no insight from him this episode - he's all about ragging on his former allies that he told us he liked the episode before the switch.

Corinne - OTTN. Boy, is she vindictive! And fake.

Marcus - CP. It is a weak CP, but he definitely is the one presented as weighing the boot choice even if we didn't get much about it other than he considered both possibilities somewhat risky. Kudos to the editors for hiding the strategic vote split to fake us out with his vote for Susie.

Charlie - UTR. There's been absolutely no development to his edit since the second episode on the opening night.

Bob - OTTP. Is there even any need for a discussion here? This is about as blatant an OTTP as you ever get.

Susie - MOR. Actually, I like Susie, and coming clean with someone you are trying to ally with isn't always a bad idea. Too bad she didn't know Corinne is a vindictive ______. Still, she's just a cog in the story.

Dan - MOR. The reasons for his ouster have been played up for a few episodes now. Other than reminding us of them, the edit left him alone (probably due to the crowded episode and the need to present Susie as the alternative choice).

I have to say that I did not see the Ace boot coming. While I had thought prior to the episode that Crystal should survive to tie up her loose end with Randy, when it became clear Sugar would not be the target, I thought I had been wrong. Nope! Ace goes down at Sugar's hands, resolving the juxtaposition of his N edit and her P edit, and even Marcus has a role, denying Ace immunity and handing immunity to Sugar.

But with Ace gone, it seems Randy and Corinne are clamoring to step up into the villain role. With the promo for next week, I don't see how anyone can still see Randy as anything but a distraction.

Matty's role seems to be the guy who keeps losing his allies. He should reconcile himself with the rest of Fang and try to pull back Susie and Randy (even though he won't be successful with the latter), but I don't think that's what he'll end up doing. The Onions will never let him get very far.

We've been told the Onion plan is to use Bob's vote until F5 with Randy joining them for F4. I would bet it doesn't play out that way. Sooner or later Randy or Corinne are going to come after Marcus, and that's going to upset the plan, but I don't know how that'll come out except that Marcus will probably survive.

Ken's edit is still second best, but if the positive tinge he got this episode continues too intensely, he'll go far but not to the end. He'll be the next Peih Gee.

That may be, but I do not think that is the intent of the editing. The reality may be that Crystal was extremely difficult to put up with, but the editing has still handled that reality with kid gloves. Sure she has come off badly anyway, but she's always been given a chance to provide us with her viewpoint that mitigates the negativity to some degree. Ken's confessional made it seem like Ace and Matty were picking on Crystal unjustly - reality or not, that carries weight, and the inclusion of harsh confessionals from Ace and Matty reinforces that perception. And Sugar's pronouncement at TC brushed all three of Crystal, Matty, and Ace with the "petty bickering" brush, not just Crystal. And the editors even have Jeff give his blessing to Ace's boot in saying Fang is finally playing the game. (This follows up Jeff's praising of passion - primarily related to Crystal - at the last TC.)

I'm not saying the editing is making Crystal positive, but they are not going out of their way to make her negative either. Sometimes the editing works, and sometimes it doesn't. Obviously, there are large numbers of posters here who are actively rooting against Crystal, which is fine as long as they keep it out of their Edgic ratings.

But even if Crystal comes across as negative, we are definitely meant to side with Ken this episode and with Sugar getting out from under Ace's thumb. Ace was a cool villain, but he was still the villain.
