Has anyone else noticed that whenever someone talks about winning or money or status they get voted off? hmmm.... i think GREED and SELFISHNESS might be a Theme! I know that Marcus, GC, Ace, Randy and now Corinne are really good examples of this... can anyone come up with any other examples??? Anyone who has said something Greedy or Selfish who is still standing? How do you think this bode's for their chances? Does anyone else beside me and OO wonder where the hell Bob is getting all his stuff? Personally, i think it's weird.... He really is worse than a Raven. And that's saying something. |

I have to say in all my years of reading this thread, this is the most shitty "your opinion doesn't count!" replies to peoples picks I've
ever seen.
Way earlier, after Marcus went, someone said that everyone who was not "for Marcus" before that happened got shot down and look where that got them (the shooters). The way this season is going you all shouldn't be saying "Your opinion is total crap because (blank) is so obvious". There's nothing obvious about this season. How would you feel if they did Tina redux? Unlikely, but it's been a while, so why not? As I've said before, nobody stands out in this motley crew to me. After the last episode I'd lean towards Ken just because he got the credit for being involved in Randy being voted out (WTF?). If he gets credit for Corrine going next week, even though it had nothing to do with him (again), I would say that's your winner. |

okay, well let's look at what the manipulation for the story is- does that get us anywhere?
does it make sense if Sugar does not get some sort of revenge on Kenny per the storyline? we have the clean slate scene and starting anew -but the last episode kinda goes counter to that based on Crystal and Kenny voting against Matty (regardless of the reality of the situation) did we need to see the sun/star for Matty and Sugar -has the sun/star been used with anyone other than Sugar? I still think the final three is a combo of Sugar/Crystal/Kenny or Sugar/Crystal/Matty -the only thing that I'm caught up on is is there a payoff is Sugar does not vote out Kenny -is the suspense of whether she does or not enough? |

that's intersting CL, about the clean slate scene... Crystal called it a clean slate, yet she and her Number 1 are the ones who bailed...
the other key phrase at that moment was "don't let anyone get into you're head"... and while Matty (who it was aimed at) has kept his head. I would say too, that Sugar has not let anyone else into her head. Ken lost it... he let someone into his head and messed up his thinking. Crystal, maybe a bit as well. but she at least recognized the possibility that it was a fake, and wrestled with actually voting for Matty. As for the star... i recall seeing it before a Matty/Sugar scene, and also before Sugar and the flag scene. That's all i remember though. Although, what stood out for me during the flag scene was that there was a shot of the flag and you could see where Matty and Sugar signed their names together. Getting back to Sugar... the whole scene where Matty tells Sugar that Ken lied to her to vote of Ace is really a dangler isn't it. There has been NOTHING for resolution... yet. She was pretty upset, and i then there was their promise to watch each other's backs. That hasn't come to play yet either. I feel like Corinne passed her torch last night... and it wasn't to Bob. I mean seriously, that girl is POISON, and with her and Randy gone, we have no "villian" but there is always a villian up to the end (hello Natalie!)... every good mystery has that. And all this fake idol stuff has done a nice job of making us put aside the real idol hasn't it? I wonder when "the boy who cried wolf" is gonna rise his head!!! 3rd times a charm? -- And donuts... glad to hear that you think this random beadworking and collecting by Bob is weird too. |

does it make sense if Sugar does not get some sort of revenge on Kenny per the storyline?Agreed that it would make sense, but that does not mean that it will happen. If Sugar and Kenny are F3, maybe it's brought up as an example of how Kenny played the game better by suckering Sugar into getting rid of her best ally in the game. If Sugar does get Kenny booted, then why spend 100% discretionary time on the scene in the boat when Ken was going in circles, and the scene in the latest episode with Bob and Ken fishing? Both scenes helped build up Ken's character, but if he goes before the F3, why not use that airtime on one of the F3 members? It's the inclusion of scenes like these that are part of the reason that Ken is #1 on my winner's list. |

Or maybe like I suggested several pages ago, Kenny's storyline is about him growing, but not winning, ala Cirie the first time around. Her story was all
about growing, going from couch potato to survivalist, starting fires and catching fish. Kenny is similar, going from nerdy kid to grown man providing for his
tribe and becoming a man. I think that's one thing people are overlooking. Not that I'm saying it's exactly what it is, but it's reminding me
of Cirie a lot.

redwing, absolutely. which is how I do edgic or at least analyzing the story -ratings don't help me, only story threads, which helped me with Corrine and
Charlie in redefining their roles in the story once the Ace/Sugar/Kenny/Matty storyline took shape.
so to me it's all a question of what carries weight. there are lots of potential storylines that could happen that never seem to pass -but there's usually the easiest one to zero in on. (last season's Parvati/Eliza comes to mind). There's a difference to me when watching the show between Richard Hatch and Jonny Fairplay for instance -maybe the reason for CPN and OTTN -I was positive that the story was setting Fairplay up for a comeuppance. In this case, what will seem unresolved or odd if there isn't a comeuppance or a redifinition of the role between Sugar and Kenny. Matty's edit could be explained based on the proposal to his girlfriend and justifies his experience in Eden and thus complete. But Kenny duping Sugar doesn't seem to be in the cards- only a redefinition of their relationship -bridging it as a mutual misunderstanding if there isn't a blindside. Again, though I try to get into the pyschology of an editing team -tricks have definitely been played here especially in regards to Marcus -the practical winner's quote before the first episode's kickoff opening credits, the mountain top arms outstretched for chrissakes- I still think of Crystal and Matty (Bob too, but to me he's not in contention) having opening confessionals before the first credits roll. But that could be another clever trick. One thing that I think never goes out the window is storytelling at crucial moments -and I think Probst's introduction to the other players is crucial -and Kenny had his moment defined. what's my point? I forget. Matty or Kenny wins? |

RobVanStratus wrote: I agree with this... ( I thought i'd read it somewhere... but 10 or 11 pages of catch up reading always throws me off!) I've said too (much earlier in this thread) that part of growing up is learning to accept defeat... so Kenny's journey from boy to man would have to include him learning to be humble and to accept defeat. I thought the comparison to Cirie was brilliant... well done. I know that Kenny's edit is excellent... but there is something wrong with his edit...and i'm having difficulty putting my finger on it. It feels like there is a disconnect between Kenny's edit and the themes of this year. Kenny has admitted to being a rat... but maybe snake is more accurate? |

My edgic choice at the merge was Kenny, and I'll stick with it. I have yet to have the, "oh, crap" feeling I had with Amanda in every episode
AFTER the merge when it was pretty clear Todd was going to win. But it's close - I mean, my gosh - I have doubt! So take the following with a grain of
Kenny-sized salt.
I'm very leery of Kenny's "rat" comments, especially with the many snake images this season (as well as there being a serpent in Eden, or so I've been told). One of the great, almost archetypal, imageries of Survivor from its first season is that snakes beat rats (and thank you Susan H for that). In the grand world of Survivor, rats don't win. Snakes do. And this season we're in Eden, right? The question arises - who's the snake? Matty is too nice. Crystal? Possible. Susie? Heh.... Bob? Interesting, but not a snake, as of yet. Although in the last two episodes he's been the tempter, but that's not his schtick. He's smart, Mr. Knowledge. He's scary smart, knows the world. Makes sundials. Furniture. Kitchen Utensils. next week he's constructing a flat-screen TV out of palm fronds. They really hammered it home last episode, with him making a skillet out of a can. He knows stuff. He's the big smart guy, the "tree," so to speak, of knowledge. He's also the big threat, and everyone seems to know it. Now, getting back to the Eden analogy, the tree of knowledge (of good and evil) was the temptation that Eve surrendered to. If Eve is Sugar... Ewwwww... But anyway - she aligns with him, somehow. Tempts someone else to join up with Mr. Science Dude, and... Remember. Eve was banished from Eden Adam was also banished from Eden. The serpent no longer dwelled in Eden. The only thing left from the story within Eden was... the tree. Bob wins.... Yeah. Bob. Right... Anyway, take the above with a certain element of fun - Kenny's my pick, but damn - this is supposed to be a fun place. And tomorrow, I'll discuss the aboriginal creation myth and how it shows Susie's gonna kick some Survivor butt. |

Blake, what "edgically" eliminated Crystal in Ep5? Her OTTN rating, or was it something else?

Crystal was eliminated by EP5 because she had nothing close to a cool-off and was labelled with GC as "bugging out" due to the elements. She was
called unstable and was a COMPLETE wreck.

Do you think her "cool off" would be her few negative pre-merge episodes? She went from likeable to unlikeable to likeable again. I still will go on
record as the only one who thinks she will win.

You are definitely not the only one Poody. I personally think its between Sugar and Crystal for the win. Kenny seems too much like a Cirie S12
"growth" story, and Matty just seems like a bland Ozzy.
