Initial thoughts
Kenny on the boat. Remember Chris riding the horse, the horse goes backwards, then Chris rights it. Hmmmm. Apparently Corrine has nothing on Susie to date. Randy's vote channeling Clay. :-) Good for Susie, but save fire building for tiebreakers. Maybe I am completely off base, but first opinion is that Matty got more fluff and Kenny got more care. The "Marcus more deserving talk" at the RC was interesting, a lot shown between the players. Built in reporting that actually added to the crafting of Kenny's edit and to the original Kota. Kota 6 was filled with a sense of entitlement and Kenny is helping Fang crush that with the viewer along for the ride. The setup is Sugar doesn't trust Kenny, Kenny knows she's smart, she's got Matty's back. All the better when she turns on Matty, with Ken getting some of the credit. I have to put Kenny in the F3 now, and likely Crystal. Not sure about Sugar, but I see Matty just missing the final TC, the last obstacle Kenny has to overcome. Can't wait for Corrine and Randy as jurors. Man, Charlie was all about Marcus! Bob might be hopelessly toast, but that's a P edit in defeat. He wasn't shown as naive to Sugar having the idol. If only... When I took notes on Kenny and Matty I noticed neither got much on their first couple trips to TC. Now, Kenny is getting it in spades. Kitty, do I still need to take notes on Randy? I don't think this is what you were hoping for. I love the guy, but I know he isn't meant to be on the side of right now. Michael |

I have no idea what's going to happen -well, I have a semi idea. But man, oh man, right now it's just fun to speculate.
Great season. |

I just realised this is the 3nd time we've been shown Sugar saying she doesn't trust Kenny/Crystal (The Ace boot, post Ace boot and now tonight's
ep) and still voting with them, will this continue to happen?

Most likely the Sugar not trusting Crystal and Kenny is misdirection. If you're playing a game out there, you probably say everything, and you probably
also say you don't completely trust most of your closest allies -interviewers go down a detailed list of questions to give them ample material.
I suspect NewFang worked on a lot of deals and strategy the night before they thought they were merging. And remember Sugar and Ken probably talked a lot before voting out Ace -deals are made when people talk. And Sugar saved Crystal -there was probably talk there too. I think the four (and Susie) are all on the same page. Okay -forgot the intro recap -all Ken and Crystal being the underdogs on Kota -nothing about Matty needing immunity to survive. POINT for Kenny. |

Ohhhhhhhh, wait a minute. Marcus said there can only be one Adam.
Ken and Matty are pretty darn close (similar to Marcus and Charlie) -perhaps there are two Adams in Eden at the end -and again, just more irony for Marcus. Final three confessionals from Matty, Kenny commenting on it? Maybe Ken, Matty, Sugar final three? And you can outwit Crystal Cox, baby? |

I think odds are the final 3 is Ken, Sugar, Susie.

I don't know -rewatching this great TC and a lot of manipulation going on with Sugar -tying her to many themes, but mainly to Ken. I think endgame dynamic
involves them somehow. I actually think Sugar is the safest bet of making the final three (but not winning).
Okay, we also have Bob fake idol. Do we flag this? Is this just more of his ingenuity, or will it be a plot point? Did it need to be shown? There's no one to fool other than Randy, Corrine (Susie?) |

I think we need to consider that for the most part, the Final 3 is presented to us at some point as a group. It makes sense. I think it makes sense for Kenny
and Sugar to be there. I think that last spot goes to Matty, Crystal, or Susie. I am, however, keeping in mind that Bob is starting to get an arc, and could
penetrate this new Fang superpower. Maybe a Yau-placing? I remember Jeff mentioning pre-season that Corinne is going to be someone to root against, and mention
that if you make it to the end it's hard to get those votes. So maybe she does fulfill her evil destiny. I remember everytime Dan spoke he said 'The
Evil Empire' and it kept showing her. Corinne is an important force, but with Marcus gone, she's become a losing force. The editors don't want
anything to be predicatable. Ken's underdog edit is enjoyable and his clumsy and overcoming obsticles edit isn't obvious; it's curious. CAN he do
it? As edgicers, we know he probably can. But out eyes are still focused on the people we're seeing a lot of; the distractions, and Ken has been well
hidden and now he's emerging as a non-distraction. Matty is just too OTTP theme-relevant.

Bob: OTTP3 You have to love the guy; what he built will be the standard against which all future fake IIs will be measured. Charlie: MOR4 How could he go on "living" (in Survivor terms) without Marcus? The answer is that he could not. Now re-united in "death" with his true love. Corinne: MOR3 Went from the sublime (the tribal reward) to the ridiculous (how stupid Sugar is) in the same episode. All those extremes end up in the middle. Crystal: OTTN2 This is getting old. Change the record, please. Ken: CP4 I'm a bit worried that this mastermind stuff is being laid on a bit thick. Matty: MORP3 I'm a bit worried that this I love Gabon stuff is being laid on a bit thick. Randy: OTTN4 This is getting even more old. Change the record, please. Nice confessional during the Reward though. Sugar: MORP2 Developing her skills as a swing vote and still has the idol. The t.e.a.r.s for Charlie were a nice touch. Susie: UTR1 After her brief moment of notoriety, sinks back into obscurity (borderline INV rescued only by winning the IC). Notable that there was no post-Marcus boot confessional shown.
Marcus: UTRP1 Gets this rating because of all the SPV -the most for any booted contestant that I can remember (some of the more creative posters will probably think it arrogant of him to get so much).
Winner: Ken / Mattie. Mattie / Ken (nobody else in this horse race). There's aspects of each of their edits that I am uncomfortable with, but bottom line I am less uncomfortable with Ken's at this point in the game. There were a few scenes tonight that helped Ken (him getting the boat sorted out, Mattie wanting time off from the game, Mattie saying that Susie could not make fire). But it ain't over yet. Edited for the t.e.a.r.s word

A good thing to look at when we talk about reporting versus manipulation...
this episode had Crystal strategizing, running to Susie, Kenny and Matty -"this, this here, we home." as opposed to the Half Time Clean the Slate scene that was pieced together with Sugar, Matty, Crystal and Kenny. two great examples of how to understand storytelling and editing. |

I have a hard time with Susie being in the final three -and I cite Becky as an example. Becky, I believe just didn't talk. Susie talks all the time -her
confessionals are filled with meat.

This is the most entertaining season in a longggg time.
Quick rundown of who's left and their chances, via whatever tattered remnants of edgic are left scattered in the wind in S17: Susie, Corrine, Crystal, Bob (sigh) - no. Too INV, too OTT. Who I'd like to see in this group - Bob, of course. If he won it would be a stake in the chest of edgic, though. He still, alas, has the decent, heroic OTTP edit. Not much change in tone there through the season - we just like him more. Randy: There were too many opportunities to hear strategic thought from him tonight, and the editors chose to not show them. What did he think about Marcus' boot? We don't know. All we got was bitch and moan. Hey, some bitch/moan from Randy is fine, provided their was the insight to go with it. But in this ep it was all Crystalhate. His chances plummeted because the strategic CP underpinnings of many other episodes simply weren't there. Ken: If you look just at the raw numbers for the ratings this season, Ken fits it very, very well. Nice first episode, then sort of hides a while, then some combos of MOR and CP. Never INV, never too OTT. We saw him as the sweet geek in ep 1, is getting stronger and better. Is even cocky (ohhh.... doubt...) I really see zero wrong with his edgic chances. Matty: Pretty decent ratings arc, but I've heard his tune before - struggling with lousy tribe, not going on many rewards, a bit of anger, some redemption... bobby... PG, Oz... pick 'em. But there have been some very intriguing parts to his edit, like the elephants. Maybe it's likely that the editors toss in cool shots simply because they are so way cool. The wild card is Sugar. I'm trying to think why edgically she won't win, and it's hard to come up with much. Her arc is okay, but there have been too many instances where it seems like she had been pushed around strategically by others, and I've yet to see her learn from her mistakes. Her position today ("Hey, suddenly I'm important") is not a moment that engenders confidence, because winners usually don't have those moments. i want to see her scrap and fight and trick. None of this last stuff is really edgic, but more general editing impressions. Kenny, Matty, Sugar. A wonderful season! BTW, Corrine's edit is plummeting. From now on, whomever she disses I will instantly know will make some brilliant play that wrecks Corrine's chances even more than they are now. |

Great episode!
Bob: CP3 - Shown to be smart, realizing he was at the bottom and crafting a fake idol. Crystal: CPM3 - Got a little bit cocky. Not sure if we were supposed to be rooting for or against her during tribal. Ken: CPP4 - Ken did a great job highlighting his good moves throughout the season without showing Crystal's cockiness. Great job orchestrating Charlie's boot. Susie: MORP3 - Great job winning immunity. Jeff was impressed, as were we. Still, not a lot of strategy coming from her. Charlie: UTR2 - Honestly, I expected a little more of a reaction at Marcus' boot. Corinne: MOR3 - Could have been a lot bitchier about Marcus' boot. Matty: MORP3 - "I'm the next out." Shows that he's humble. He was also thrilled to be merged. Seemed a bit simple though. Randy: CPM3 - We want to root for him, but at tribal he was a bit of an ass. I still don't know if we were supposed to be rooting for him or Crystal. Sugar: OTTP3 - Love her so much. I want her to win so bad. But she won't. Winners: 1. Matty 2. Ken 3. Randy |
