oh... i don't about that regarding Dan and OTT.

i think that many people assume that OTT is equivalent to "extreme in your face a la Judd from Guatamala"

But in reality, the definition of OTT is an over-simplification or a caricaturization of a player. An excellent example of an OTT edit that was never appropriately given is Rita from Fiji (she ended up with a MOR but she was more than that). The editors went out of their way to OVER EMPHASIZE the fact that she talked NON STOP... including multitudes of close-ups to her lips as she nattered on about everything. So while Rita was not "in-yo-face"...she was certainly a one-note caricature of a chatty-patty.

Dan certainly falls into this category...

His 3 episode OTT story line starts with him being a gorg-o-matic.

HE eats 2x or 3x what everyone else on Kota eats. We already know from the previous episode that while Dan was still on Fang, Fang was having rice shortage issues (they were eating 3x a day according to Randy) and now that Dan is on Kota... the Kotas notice how much he eats (he takes twice what Bob & Susie are sharing and is shown to be going back for more). Dan's eating habits are cross-referenced to immediately to NuFang... Ace comments on the rice shortage at Fang on the switch episode... and the editors cut back to Dan stuffing his mouth on Kota.... a suggestion that Dan was responsible for Fang's food issues ???

And then on the next episode... we have yet another binge-o-rama with the pastries. Randy even encourages Dan to eat right at the challenge site and Dan protests a bit too much on the divvy-ing up idea from Charlie. (Make no mistake... the editors wanted us to know that Dan eats too much.) Then... the icing on the Dan-cake... Dan becomes an over-excited little puppy and he is all over-ernest and extremely rah rah kota, Kota7 til the end... pledging loyalty, etc (AFTER 1 day!)... completely out of the blue, enough where the original kotas are like... WTF dude!?!?! (i think it was all the the sugar from those pastries!)

And then last but not least ... the last episode of his arc shows him all insecure and practically begging Marcus and Corinne to keep him. He is once again the over-eager little puppy... needing all sorts of pats on the head and reassurance.... And then the story arc of the over-ernest eater is summed up by none other than uber-bitch Corinne... He is (maybe) a "former fatty" with self-esteem issues and has to go.

The fact that there has been little tone and low visibility suggests to me that Dan in real life is probably really nice but just a bit meh... and that the editors made an effort to give this guy a bit of drama instead of a plain old UTR/MOR toss-off edit.
