I think it's both, character never being forgotten. As I read this, I had one example come to mind: The Cook Islands challenge where Yul "figured" that the best way to hit the underwater targets was by looking through the window rather than the target. The edit made it look like he hit every shot after that. Interviews told us that the challenge lasted almost 2 hours and that hitting targets was always more luck than accuracy.
flf, you may be right that it's all about making it part of Marcus' strategy but I still consider it was to make it appear as if everything is going perfectly well for Marcus... too well.
Yes, I agree. Especially if a booted player is a result of a challenge, and can be used for storytelling. But sometimes I also think whatever is dramatic is going to be shown regardless. But certainly sometimes things are underlined to build up a player (think of Amber's isolated close-up shot on the balance beam rat race in episode five of ASS -"nice save by Amber.") but also things will be shown in the here and now with editors just caught up in the challenge -and they can tweak it if they feel they need to to be clever. *So if Sugar won the game, would the challenge be changed? Probably not. However, we probably would have a confessional from her talking about her lack of challenge prowess and feeling vulnerable.
