I think I would prefer touring the countryside rather than the cities. I'm assuming it's probably cleaner and healthier there as well, right?
Have fun in India and take lots of pics! Except for all the sick kids and animals. If you are looking to go the holistic route, the homeopathic remedy "Arsenicum Album" is fantastic for traveler's diarrhea. Load up on probiotics, digestive enzymes, and hydrochloric acid (it's for your stomach acid). They are great for preventing digestive distress. I'd still probably bring Imodium |

One of my good friends went to India summer before last. I was thinking about going until she came back with scabies.

Question of moderate ignorance:
Exactly why is it that Americans tell each other "don't drink the water" when they go to certain foreign nations? The locals drink the water all the time, don't they? Is our water so unbelievably awesome that we can't handle the substandard stuff? If the requirements for surviving a vacation including bringing a suitcase full of antibiotics, that would seemingly outweigh any benefit of going in the first place. |

I don't know about now, but historically there were cultures which didn't drink water at all except in some fermented form -- because it was
contaminated otherwise.

compared to a lot of places anti, yes, our water is unbelievably awesome. we have great filtration systems. even in places that have modern filtration, there
are different organisms in the water that the native's digestive tracts are used to, and ours aren't. don't drink the water, don't drink
anything with ice cubes, or eat fruit you don't peel is pretty standard if you aren't used to the place. most of the time in places like that
(haven't been to india though, i don't think i could handle it, any kind of germiness makes me freak) i just carry around bottled water/diet coke and
keep plenty in my room.

My dad spent about a month in India on business. He said it is the shittiest shithole he's ever been in. While he was there, his suitcase fell apart, so he
had to buy a new one there. Fast forward many years, we are selling the avocado green suitcase in a garage sale, and an Indian guy picks it up, and my dad was
like, "that's from India." And the Indian guy was all, "oh, this is very good quality." and bought it. /endstory
