I'm so glad MP! Friends in Thibodaux are still waiting on full power back, and then huge rains hit Monroe. My parents were incredibly lucky too. Split
around them and they said it was like an umbrella over Winn, Lincoln and Jackson Parish very little rain although a good part of the parish lost power due to
wind. Stay high and dry!

I have to agree with Poody on this. I've had some scary shit coming right at me, Category Fives and all.....and they usually all miss. In fact, the last
time my area had a bad hurricane was quite awhile ago. If I evacuated every time there was a chance I could die, I might as well move out of Tampa and to the
Midwest.
Now, having a Catagory 4 or 5 being SURE to hit you, that's different. I would definitely plan an evacuation. |

i grew up with tornadoes in kansas. those fucking sirens went off ALL summer long and you just got to where you didn't expect anything to happen. that
ended on june 8, 1966 for me. i went outside to have a look around when the sirens went off and i SAW that thing and i've had nightmares about it ever
since. our home escaped but my sister lost every single thing they had. we literally had to count piles of sticks from the corner to even figure out which
house had been theirs. i haven't been complacent about weather since then.

People are stubborn and for many of the reasons previously stated -- from stupidity to it's too much trouble -- people just don't leave.
I honestly believe that folks just did not understand the concept of category 2 winds with category 4 storm surge. It's the surge that's gonna be a bitch and some folks were blinded by the "it's only a CAT 2" storm. The ones who did not get off Galveston Island earlier today when they had the chance are just fucking stupid. It was clear at that point that Ike was not "only a CAT 2." |
