None of our opinions about Survivor matter much to SEG. I don't think that's true. I think they have done stuff that enough people have bitched about. Like putting "fans" on the show along with "favourites" because of so many people moaning about fans not getting on and whining about All Stars 2. |

I started getting worried about 5 or 6 series ok at which way Survivor was heading but since China I think they have finally lifted their game.
My problem is the laziness of the challenge designers - im sick of seeing the same rehashed challenges over and over. |

I am sick of the same type of people doing the same thing every season. What they should have done is taped all 12 seasons before showing them and then we
would have a totally random ending more fun to watch. Would they create an alliance, would they vote each other off randomly? I know it isn't at all
possible, but it is nice to dream.

I say next season each cast member shud get a script to read, and instead of the players voting each other off Jeff chooses who shud go.

I once read an interview where one of the creators of Survivor said Richard Hatch ruined the whole thing. They weren't supposed to figure out the way to win was alliances. Not that quickly anyway. |

Cook Islands was my favorite season.
Fiji wasn't as bad as people say. China and Micronesia were overrated big time. |

So your saying Survivor needs more "everyday" nonactors like Chet?
I would like to see an end to recruiting for this game show, is there a shortage of people applying for this show? I hope to never see assholes such as Jonathan Penner ever again - more regular people yes, mactors - die with dicks in their asses. |

The game is missing revelation. There's nothing left to discover about the game. Not surprising given Survivor's 17 seasons (which I think is
unprecedented). We've seen every kind of cast size, tribal breakdown, twist, HII...
If I were magically a CBS producer, I would advise Survivor shift from such heavy gameplay/strategy. I love the challenges and plotting, but we've seen it all before. I would focus instead on character/survival. I want to actually know what these people are like. I want intense, interesting people you couldn't meet at a Soap audition. Also, focus on the survival aspect...The "getting fire" portion in the first episode is always one of my favorites. Who gets fire first and how? What are they eating? What kind of encounters with nature do they have? There are hints at these elements, but they are used as a filler instead of a base. The best scene of this entire season, to me, is the Fang tribe stopping the game to watch an elephant. The moment had nothing to do with plotting or an immunity idol. This was one of the first times I saw Survivor put the experience above the game importantance-wise. I think material like this would enhance the value of the game, because you might actually end up caring about these people's wins and losses. Plus, these types of experiences are unique to each environment and cast. It would be a lot more interesting than watching a group of 8 figure out 5 is bigger than 3. [warning: the above recommendation will never actually happen]

yeah the 'survival' aspect was what made the first 7 seasons interesting, all the strategy and challenges were just icing on the cake.
I think since All-Stars, the show itself started to focus too much on the "game" aspect and forgot about the whole social experiment part (and no, Cook islands was not a social experiment, it was gimmick), the stuff we remember from the early seasons were the cast, never the twists or challenges or the gameplay, but the characters. Nowadays it's all about the various twists they throw at the generic set-up of people they have. We remember people now for being players, not characters, which is kinda sad. I also agree with whoever said there's a direct correlation between the quality of a season and the number HII's and 18+ casts. The hidden immunity idol, while it makes for interesting gameplay is just another added twist that over complicates the game letting us spend less time with the cast, same with having a cast of 18 and beyond, too many people, too crowded, none standing out until they merge. China, with its restored 16-Castaway set-up and the elimination of Exile Island and the institution of inter-tribal relationships via the kidnapping was a step in the right direction, however Micronesia's Half-ASS gimmick and overblown cast was step back to the dark ages of Cook Islands/Fiji |
