Is this the classical music thread? Can I just say how much I really truly hate Mozart. Mozart blows. And Vivaldi is like classical music for retards, or if
you're slumming.

Classical music, like rock, jazz, and R&B, all seemed to run out of new ideas at about the same time. Some, like myself, would like to extrapolate this as
an extension of the international zeitgeist that brought the Reagans, Thatchers, et al to power at about the same time this happened. Regardless of the fact
they are probably not related, just mere coincidences.

I just want my fellow posters who know nothing about classical music (like me) to see my name as the last post here.

That one that Olga played for her parents when she came home from college on that episode of Hey Arnold where Helga changes the grades on her report card.

I'm trying to figure out which 30-year period of Classical Music was when new ideas were happening.

I don't remember the number but it's the one with the really awesome harpsichord part.

5 - but excluding the harpsichord part in the middle - it's like one of those really long guitar solos - the kind where it gets to the point of - just
come on - get on with it already!

BILKIS!
The Brandenburgs! I had a thread about Brandenburg 5 in the past month or so. Something about how the most embarrassing thing in the world would be if you were the harpsichordist and during the recording you ALMOST got to the end and messed up. Anyway, 5 ROCKS, but 2 is the best overall. |

Oh yeah, and number 5 is SO much fun (albeit challenging) to play by yourself on the piano (I wish I had a harpsichord!
I like to hum the orchestra parts while I play it. <33333333333333333333333333333333333 ETA: Oh, and don't be jealous!!! The way Bach builds the tension with the harpsichord is masterfully done and for that reason ALONE is why number 5 rocks. Without it, it's kinda meh. How does everyone feel about the Badinerie in Bach's Orchestral Suite no. 2? It's pure love. <3

Not so fond of the Badinerie. When my daughter was in gymnastics, another gymnast used that as her floor routine music - I got tired of hearing it so often.
