16- Fiona Apple




It's hard not to like Fiona. If you're a woman or a gay man, she's a rebelious role model, if you're a straight guy, she's an anorexic, yet weirdly hot chick with deep dark issues that just makes you want to bang her even more but you can't quite explain why. In her video for criminal, she appears as both extremely vulnerable yet kick ass at the same time. Her smokey, bluesy voice just helps cement her sexual appeal and her talent is undeniable. I remember her being 19 or 20 when her first album was realeased. Quite impressive when you remind yourself that most female singers of that age usually opt for taking their clothes off and lipsyncing to songs that have "baby" in the title. Fiona dared to go against the flow and be her own person, instead of another marketing product. (Granted, she did take her clothes off). And though she was immidiately pimped to death by MTV at the beginning of her career, unlike most people she actually took the opposite route. She started off relatively well known, than became more and more underground with each album. Refreshing to see an artist who does the opposite of selling out. In fact, I have no idea where she is today. I know I know.......Wiki/Google is my friend.

15 - Greg Graffin (Bad Religion)



Yet another band that never seem to get the credit they deserved, this guy is pretty much the ultimate anti-rock star. He's clean cut, shaven, doesn't do drugs, has more degrees than a thermometer and even teaches. He's like the polar opposite of your typical heroin-ridden rocker whom burned out 95% of his brain cells. Even if you don't know him or like him, reading his biogrphy alone should command some respect. I've never been too much into punk music, to me, it's a little too whiney, preachy and targetted to a lazy and young audience. Punk rockers are basically agressive hippies. Bad religion of course being one of the exception, their music seems targetted to an older and more mature audience. They also have great harmony and kick ass guitar riffs, making them easily one of the most influential punk bands of our generation (Pennywise being not very far behind).
